Default L79 is awesome

Who else loves the L79. I don't know why the 350 guys hate on the 327 sometimes. If your car was built with a 350 keep the 350. If your car was built with a 327 keep that. An L79 car is especially fun on the highway. Anyone have any fun L79 driving stories?

Now that was a long time ago when the 6t8 was actually a true 350hp car. I had just upgraded to a Holley DP and a Edelbrock with some Hedmans, with the first electric fan. Had most of the VP&B suspension in.
One lovely Friday afternoon while out cruising, getting onto the freeway, I just had to see what this car could do [big S shaped on ramp] and getting up to 90 or so as entering the right lane a 68 BBC conv goes roaring by me with his side pipes blaring at me. Needles to say I just had to pull up along side, his cutie next to him smiles and waves at me, well at over a 100 the 2 lanes don't stay open so I pulled in behind him we passed the traffic, then proceeded to pull up next to him again, this went on for a few miles, getting close to my exit and the same for the BBC, we pulled over to discuss the cars. He was quite impressed that the L79 keeping up to his BB. I was impressed with his cutie, they went to their fishfry, all was good. T

I've had my Glen Green 65 327/350 Corvette for over 43 years. The L-79 is a great motor. This car was my daily driver in college in the early 70's. My favorite story is the night we went on a double date (me and my buddy and 2 girls in the car). One girl was seated in the middle behind the shifter, the other on my friend's lap on the passenger seat. I was at about 5 grand in 3rd gear and was trying to shift into 4th. I hit the girl's knee and the shifter went into 2nd instead of 4th gear. It was like putting the brakes on. The tach buried but that L79 handled it with no problem. I've driven that car over 200,000 miles. 2 rebuilds but it's still the original motor in the car and running strong.

327 was (and is) a great engine. The 350 just has a few more 'cubes' and more torque. But, a well-built 327 will wind higher.

Both are great 'base-blocks' for building a nice SB engine.

I have an Corvette 327 clone in my '88 Trans-Am race car that rocks! I just switched cams, but other than that it's pretty much the same thing. Here are a couple of pics:

That car is for sale, I need to pay for paint on my '69 Corvette. Make me a resonable offer, you might be surprised what I'll take!

I dropped a 327 in my 66 it had a stick, I wouldnt want to drive a 327 without the stick but it was better than any 350 I ever owned,
I dig big blocks but if I ever use another small block on something it would be the 327
