alconk - How hard is this job becoming? I'm about to replace my evaporator core and heater core. My engine is going to be out of the car. That should simplify things for me. Any tips are appreciated.

Well I think the job has been very easy since the windshield is out. That by itself gives you all the room you need. One other thing was I had all the nuts off but still could not remove the heater box due to a stud going through the firewall with a nut on the engine side. I had a hard time finding that nut because it was underneath the main engine wire harness but once that was off it came right out.
Since your engine is out that is the perfect time to remove the evaporator for repair or restore just for the fact of all the room you have to work in. Good luck, if you have any more questions feel free to ask.
I have another thread going about changing my core out on my 72. It took me 2 1/2 hours to get it out and remove the core from the housing. Not hard just time consuming. I put the parts on the table in order as they came out to ease reassembly. I ordered the core from NAPA today and plan to have it pressure test after I put it back in the box prior to putting it back in the car. Just make sure you take photos and label the vacuum lines. Truthfully it wasn't that big of a deal. I cheated and hung the center gauge cluster with a string from the mirror and steering wheel.
What gets me is how frigging big the radio is!
While I am at it I plan to put a 83 fan motor and squirrel cage in it.
Well I was going to upload a photo of where the stud is at. it is on the top of the housing and on the left side. I got lucky.....the bolt was missing on the outside! Pm me your email and I will send the photo.
