Default PO2 Hubcaps

Can someone tell me what the differences are between a corvette PO2 and a Chevrolet PO2 ? I assume the crossed flags in the center insert. Anything else to look out for? Thanks.

Just the center cap. The corvette cap is not flat, it sticks out a bit further.

The Caprice etc. PO2's have a flat center cap. The center emblem is smooth all the way across the top of the cap. On the Corvette PO2's, the center has a raised chrome edge, and the plastic insert with the crossed flags emblem, is inset about a 1/4".

You can't go by whether the covers have a crossed flag emblem, because both of them use the crossed flags.

Are the Chevrolet PO2s and Corvette PO2s the same size (diameter)? I have a sets of 14" and 15" PO2s ... the 15" are for the Vette.

Which Chevy's have 14" wheels? Is this another answer to the OPs question?

The 74 sales brochure, shows them in the brochure, but I've never seen anything to indicate that they were actually available in 74.

The wheel covers offered in 68, were PO1's. They are nearly identical to the PO2's, but not quite. They use the same center cap and emblem, the difference is in the the shape of the wheel cover's fins, where they end at the center cap. The fins on the PO1's come to a point, where they meet the cap, while PO2's end flush at the center cap. I may have that backwards though, as I'm having a senior moment?

The Caprice and Monte Carlo PO2's, with the flat center cap, are 15", just like the Corvette. The 14" PO2 style covers, were used on 70-72 Chevelle's, 71-72 Camaro's and 71-72 Nova's.

Not to hijack, but on a similar subject, how do you replace the crossed flag emblem that is inside the flat center cap? I can't see how to separate them once I remove it from the rest of the PO2.
Any one sell just the crossed flag emblem?

Trim Parts repros the center cap. They offer it as a complete assembly for about $65, or you can buy just the plastic inserts for about $28 each. You should be able to get them direct from Trim Parts, or from most Corvette parts vendors.

I've never replaced the centers, on a set of PO2's, but if they're anything like some of GM's other wheel covers, they probably just snap in, or may have a tab that bends over the retain them?

If you can post a picture of the back side of a center, someone here should be able to figure out how they come apart.

gbvette and others,
I remembered that I took one apart a few years ago and realized that I sort of answered my own question. However, I am interested in how others have replaced the plastic crossed flags piece.
Original center cap:

I drilled out the 4 rivets and replaced with small screws and washers:

Disassembled center cap:

Hi Fran,
Nice info and pictures!
A while back a member (Mooser ?) use to post pictures of obscure Corvette parts and people would try to identify them.
The plate with the dimple would be a good one!
My guess would have had to have been a cover plate from the back of an old Maytag washer. I've never seen that part before!
Regards,
Alan

Thanks Alan. I remember those Guess the Parts games. The back plate would be a real stumper.
