Default Hagerty Insurance

Met with a new customer today who has an Allstate office, we talked business then chatted a bit about cars, he suggested I switch from our current carrier to Hagerty, Said a lot of great things about them.

So I just want to run it by you guys here and see the pros and cons of Hagetry Insurance.

I can say our vette is driven purely for pleasure and is not a daily driver.

Thanks in advance for any input.

In what way? I found it less restrictive than Hagerty.

I use American Modern Insurance Group and am very happy but have never had a claim. A friend has his 68 Camaro with Hagerty and he had a claim last year and was very satisfied with how Hagerty handled the claim.

Been with them a while now since they took over Silver Wheels, their rates increased last year for the first time in about 5 years. No claim history to report, but I've heard good reports from guys here on the forum. $20,000 agreed value, premium of $223/year, allowed 10,000km/year, which is lots or me.

I guess it was the part where you can't drive it to work that often like maybe twice in a certain amount of time. I live 7 minutes from my work and I like to drive to work frequently. I didn't see anything like that on Hagerty website.

Here is what the. Corvette museum said that feels too restrictive to me.

Collector Vehicles will be considered ineligible for the program if they are used solely for errands and/or shopping, driving to or from work or school, business/commercial usage, or other similar actions. While commuting to or from work is normally a non-covered usage, an optional coverage is available that allows the car to be driven to and from work up to twice a week. The vehicle must be stored in a locked garage facility when not in use.

If I drive our vette to see a customer, that would be considered commercial use. And our storage for the car is not lockable.

I have Hagerty for the race car and the trailer. I like the fact that we could get an agreed value on both, rather than having to get the race car appraised for Farmers Insurance, who has our home and street cars.

Two tows (I since got AAA to spread the wealth and AAA covers all my cars) and a $5,000 claim in three years. Great to do business with. No rate increase. Would recommend highly. Have a great day, Bill

P.S. Just to clarify, I use AAA only for the towing option. They cover any car I'm in or driving.

I don't have any problem with them. You do need a grocery-getter (daily driver). And they have a nice road-side assistance option (within 80km/50miles) for a reasonable cost. And of course they provide "agreed value" protection. As for mileage limits, they do not have any really. They know very well these cars are not driven daily and in the case of Canada for only about five months each year. Heck, the windchill tonight will be -30*F. I don't think the Corvette will be on the road.

I should clarify I find the corvette museum too restrictive for my usage. I'm sure its fine for lots of people. We are paying more than 600. A year with our current insurer. I did a quick quote on Hagerty for 324.

You can do better price wise than Hagerty. I have had them for years for my '55 Nonad (not stock) as well some of my friends. They are not the cheapest game in town but they do pay. You need to talk to people that have put in claims. In the end that's when you find out how good your insurance is. That's why I added my Corvette to the policy.

I have had collector Car insurance for about 15 years. I started with Hagerty. I did not have any claim's with them. I switched to Grundy in 2006 had two claims one for a tow and one where I backed into a friends truck. (forgot his truck was in the front of our Garage) Not a problem with filing and getting car Fixed. I have 3 vehicles now on Corvette Museum Insurance. I had 1 claim, had a hail damage when a storm came out of no where with golf ball size ice put about 100 dings in the 93 Firebird + 2 vehicles covered by Geico. Had it outside cleaning if for a show on the coming weekend.
Every Insurance company required the vehicle be stored inside. Not sure if they asked if it was locked but they would likely figure it would be lockable. I'm lucky to put 500 miles on each of the cars covered. so I do not drive them much. My 37 gets driven the most, once a week to the Friday night show and shine.

I have Hagerty. Two tows and no accidents on $25k agreed value. Under $250 a year. No rate adjustments.

Love them.

I have Hagerty and would not consider changing if it only saved a couple of dollars. One tow, no accidents, $25k agreed value, under $250 a year. No rate adjustments.

I have had a tow and a Bambi related accident... Hagerty was awesome with both events.
Good Luck..

I suggest you ask Hagerty directly about that. When I was insurance shopping Hagerty was very clear on that I could not drive the car to work ever. I also must drive straight to and from car shows. If I stopped at the grocery store on the way home I was not covered.

Well I took Zwede's advice and called Hagerty, yup they are too restrictive as well. Has to be a locked structure ( I'm not building a garage at this time ) and can't take it work more than a couple times a month.

Screw that ****!

Thanks anyways guys!

The website was a bit misleading.

The definition between "daily driver" and "just for pleasure" is what you have to work out with any insurance provider. You're going to find it tough to get an agreed upon value policy without a garage to store the car and limited use.

btw, I had a claim with Hagerty and I will continue to carry their insurance.
