I have a 69corvette non matching # car, I dont have the original engine
but I do have the original tranny. breaking down the # the trans was made march 20th 1969,so with that imformation from the trans whats should the numbers be on the engine to make it a matching # car.
After March 20, 1969. Your tranny would have been assembled, shipped to St. Louis, and stockpiled before your car would have been assembled. I agree with Doorgunner; your VIN will narrow the production date. What's the time built code on the trim tag?
Hi Td,
Carrying on Revi's thought.
On some cars the engine was cast and assembled really quite close to the car's assembly date.
Engine block cast Dec. 31, 1970
Engine assembled Jan. 7, 1971
Trim Tag date Jan. 14, 1971
All sorts of things affected this timing so this might just be an example of things running very normally and smoothly.
If you were REALLY serious about knowing about your engine's stamp you'd begin searching for cars built about the same time period and see what those engine's casting and assembly dates look like.
It's kind of a fun puzzle but also can be frustrating.
There are people who have been running surveys like this both formally and informally for YEARS!
Regards,
Alan

yes it is fun and quite frustrating, and very expensive,my trim plate reads H25 so the trans and the trim plate are a week apart, I agree, to really lock it in would be to find a car with a serial #that is close to mine.
I've owed this car now 17yrs now never gave a dam about matching #s, I quess all these yrs hearing about matching #s has worn me down a bit,I doubt I would go that route if I found an engine because of the expense.
Although there is a guy selling a block for 500.00 bucks but it was cast the wrong year for my car, it just good to know in case I do come across something one day, thats why I posted the thread. T hanks to all that posted to provide the information that I needed.
If you're interested in "numbers and originality" you should purchase the 1968-69 Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide, it will explain alot. You don't need to be a member to purchase.
