I HAVE A SHROUD WITHOUT AN EXTENSION ON IT. THE RADIATOR IS COPPER. 350/300HP AUTO ONLY. 1970 NCRS JUDGING GUIDE STATES "ALL COPPER RADIATORS HAVE AN EXTENSION". I THOUGHT THE EXTENSIONS WERE USED FOR A.C., ALUMINUM, OR H.P.. VEHICLES ONLY. I'M THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE AND IT NEVER HAD AN EXTENSION ON IT. HOW GOOD IS THE JUDGING GUIDE? WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF RESTORING THE CHASSIS AND USING THE JUDGING GUIDE AS A REFERENCE. WE HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE FAN CLUTCH, DIFFERENT PART NUMBER THAN WHAT THE JUDGING GUIDE SAID. MEL SAVED THE DAY ON THAT PROBLEM. THANKS AGAIN MEL. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME REGARDING "1970 JUDGING GUIDE"AND THIS EXTENSION ISSUE... THANKS DROOP...
The AIM for that year should also depict whether the extension was included with your build. Not sure if there was a "heavy-duty" cooling system option in 1970 [or not]. If so, that option, the A/C option, and specific engine options might have required a different radiator and/or the shroud extension.
Oddly, the 1971 AIM calls for that extension on the LS5 and LS6 big block engines, but I don't see it shown for the LT-1 engine or for A/C applications other than the LS5/LS6. Not sure if that has any relevance for the 1970 configurations.
