Hi 409,
In looking at the photos in the various catalogues it appears the fuel pumps very similar in configuration, if not the same, except for the differences you mention.
Regards,
Alan
That's a really good question. One that I was eventually going to ask. My 427 came with a Carter fuel pump and I know it's not original since it says in my restoration book that it should be an AC fuel pump. I have a new fuel pump that I bought years ago for my 79 C10 that has a 350 with a 4 barrel carb. Would this fuel pump work ok on the big block or should I just buy another one? Didn't mean to hijack your thread. Thanks
Pretty sure when we swapped my 383 sb for the 454 bb that we swapped fuel pumps for some reason keeping the fuel pump with the car so to speak,
I also know some aftermarket pumps will not fit all sb's in that the pump lever binds when stuck into the block.
As far as size goes unless you are doing so really high rpm stuff a stock unit will do fine,

They look the same, but there's no part number on the one I have nor is it marked as an AC pump. I'll probably just buy a new one since I'm not using the Carter that was on it. It doesn't have the same connections as the AC pump. It had some pretty scary rubber fuel lines attached to it and I want to go back to the stock steel lines. Much safer, I'm sure.
The arms are different between the SB and BB pumps. I've never seen a listing for any that fit both. Even the aftermarket like edelbrock list different pumps regardless of the fittings etc.
Some say you can get away with a SB pump on a BB but they starve, the BB pump on a SB will likely bind / break or wear really fast.
