Default Need some opinions.

So, I ordered buckskiin seat covers from Corvette America list year sometime in July. I recently looked at the seats that came out, and they are actually smoke grey...I made a mistake. The center console, looks buckskin in color, and the top of the dash looked like it was buckskin. But the door panels, trim, front dash, carpet were smoke gray too.

Now, this is what i'm thinking, order a new dash pad (old one is toast) in buckskin, paint the center arm rest buckskin (needs paint), keep the buckskin color seats, and paint the inside of the chromed trim area on the gray door panels buckskin. Maybe do the steering wheel in buckskin.

Question to you guys, is what do you think? think I should just try to send the covers back to Corvette America and switch out for gray and keep everything gray? Does the new color combination sound good?

Telling people what year car, exterior color, coupe vs convertible, interior color code on the trim tag, maybe even a picture would all be helpful details if you want input.

The choice would be yours. With the parts available to work with, you can easily change part colors with good quality interior dye (not 'paint' and not rattle can dyes). The easiest approach would be to dye interior the color of the seat covers, as those are the most trouble to recolor.

If you need info on where to get interior dye or how to process the parts, just ask.

I agree. You want buckskin or do you want smoke gray? Your choice.

SEM liquid dye that you purchase from a nearby professional auto body paint supply store would be best. If you don't have spray equipment, purchase a PreVal bottle sprayer and 2 or 3 additional gas canisters at the same time (only about $10 for sprayer and $3 per gas canister).

For your situation, 1 pint should do the job. Have it mixed to the GM interior color code you choose, or mixed to match a part you bring in. If you decide that all of your parts need recoloring, go with the color code; if your seatcovers are already 'good enough', match them.

The process is relatively easy: clean all parts really well with detergent/water solution; rinse thoroughly to get ALL detergent off the surface; let dry completely. Having interior pieces standing up (vertical) is best with the bottle spayer, as it won't shoot well with too much tilt on it (30 degrees or less from vertical will be fine). Spray two light, covering coats on the piece and let dry. If you get a run (try not to), just allow it to dry as-is instead of wiping it. SEM dye is very forgiving. That's it!! New interior!!

If you have gouges or cracks in some of the parts, just trim off any protruding vinyl, then fill/smooth over with some polyester spot-putty (auto body work). For deep cuts, allow filler to dry; and if it shrinks back, use another bit to fill to surface when completely dried. You can use a toothpick to simulate the surface graining as the putty becomes firm (but not completely dry).

After completing the spray job, use a polymer protectant for plastics (Nu-Vinyl or Meguiar's for plastics) to wipe over your parts...rather than an oil-based protectant. It will dry completely and dry clear, last a long time, and when you re-clean after several weeks/months, you can just wipe down with damp cloth then wipe another coat of Nu-Vinyl or Meguiar's when dry. Piece of cake and it looks fantastic.
