I am moving on to the next adventure in life. The Navy has seen fit to transfer me from Naples, Italy and send me back to the States. San Diego will be my new home for the next few years. I hope that Veronica(my '72) makes the trip safely. We part ways for two months in three days. I drove to the base in Capodichino today and up to the top floor on the parking structure to get this pic. That's Mount Vesuvius in the background. Even though Vesuvio is a bit hazy it's rare to get a day here when you can see it through all the pollution and smog from the garage. Not to mention no other cars in the shot! While I will miss this place I can't wait to get back to the states where I can easily get parts and make some upgrades. I may have to submit this one to a mag or two!
I'd like to add my sincere THANKS for your service and welcome to San Diego! There are several great Corvette Clubs in the area. I belong to the North County Corvette Club. Check out the website:
Our 38th Annual "Plastic Fantastic" Corvette Car show will be held in beautiful downtown San Diego on 17May. Hopefully you and your Corvette will be in town by then. I will be a volunteer at the show and hope to have my C3 out there in time for the show. I will keep an eye out for your arrival.
The fact that you still have wheels on your car is evidence that you kept it locked up and well hidden away from the local thieves! I lived in northern Italy for about 3 years and traveled frequently to Napoli for work. It's beautiful...from a distance. Up close...what a cess pool! Congratulations on getting out.
What response do you get from local people driving a Corvette? l'd guess a lot of people there don't even recognize the car. Especially, those sidepipes, I'd think that even make the car even that much more unusual.
