Mooser...thanks here also.
Who said old threads are irrelevant

The previous owner hacked up the wiring when he installed a new $300 piece-of-junk Hurt(s) Ratchet Shifter
Now I can get the wiring right after rebuilding the top of the tunnel and installing my new to me OEM shifter.

I started refurbishing my new (to me) shifter. It was quite corroded but it was all there and felt solid, and after cleaning it up it does seem quite solid. I am wire-brushing, cleaning, lubricating, and painting.
HOLY COW! I had a hell of a time getting that shifter ball off....... and that's after soaking in PB Blaster for a couple of days. Still wouldn't come off. I finally ended up disassembling the shifter from the bottom. I clamped the shift shaft in a vise. I used my soldering torch to heat the inside metal of the ball (sharp focused flame) and THEN I used chain wrench to twist the ball off ---- and I had really clamp the dang shaft in the vise REAL TIGHT.
Lucky I didn't ruin the ball ....but at that point I was pretty much ready and willing to ruin it. Looks like it's cleaning up ok.
I will be replacing that little flat washer and the mounting screws with stainless--- just because I can
