Dewitt's install
I have a buddy with a 69 bb. He has a bastard of a radiator in it and it overheats at stop lights. He got a package from Dewitt's to replace the fan and radiator.
He told me he is not that mechanically inclined. I told him he got the wrong car. :-)
I have never installed one of their setups but should be able to help him figure it out. I am headed over to his garage tomorrow so I was wondering if anyone her could give me a heads up on what I might want to take with me or give me any tips. I am planning to take my elctrical tool box over and I assume he has basic wrenches and sockets. Any other tools you can think of that I should grab? Also; how do these kits measure the temp?
Thanks!
Otherwise it's pretty easy. Remove the shroud which on mine is 2 bolts on top and 2 on the bottom. Radiator is another 4 bolts on top and it lifts out.
Something I learned here on the forum. Cut out some cardboard to cover the finned areas on both sides of the radiator during the install. This will prevent any scrapes on the fins while you put the radiator in place.
On my '71 BB, I had to remove the hood. Then I removed the radiator, shroud, and frame as one unit. I re-assembled the new DeWitts radiator, frame, and shroud, and dropped it into place. I'm a small old guy and could do this by myself, except for the hood (my wife helped).
This was information I received on the forum.

It went well except he did not get the top brackets. We got to the wiring and I had a difference of opinion with the other guy that came over to help. He was set on sending the wire back to the battery. I am thinking just pick up the main feed on the alternator for the constant and just send the switched hot through the firewall and pick up signal at the fuse box on the accessory lead. I think other than that it should be a done deal next time I get over there. You thoughts on wiring?
I wish I had taken a picture of what we too out. It had plates welded on each side of the core support to block about four inches off ( each side) because the radiator came out of a massy furgeson or something and did not come close to filling the core support.
I am sure he will be pleased with the new setup.
