I completed a 63' corvette convertible restoration a few years ago and now I have taken on a 68' corvette convertible project that is ground zero in terms of condition.
It is a canadian car and has seen many winters. Thus the chassis is dust.
The car currently sits on a solid chassis from a 1974 convertible and i am wondering if that chassis is worth using as there might be slight differences?
Should i use that chassis or look for a 68' chassis?
What is the difference of the convertible chassis from 68-75?

Hi tcs,
I think what frame you decide to use depends on what your goal for the restoration is and how accurate you want the finished car to be.
The 68 frames didn't have 2 braces at the rear step-up that set them apart from 69-72 frames.
In addition, the rear frame rails and rear crossmember are different on a 74+ chassis than on the 68-73 frame.
There are many parts on a 68 that are 68 only parts which makes restoring a 68 really well a bit more difficult, but also rewarding.
For the majority of people an incorrect frame would be no problem, but some would have no interest in a car with a frame that's obviously different than the original.
So, it's up to you!
Regards,
Alan
On an original 68, the radiator core support was derived from the 63-67 and was bolted to the front frame horns, like they were. The improved 69-up support is bolted to the first " V " front frame cross member. The only difference on the back of a 74 frame should be a couple of small brackets welded to the outside edge at the rear of the frame, that can easily be removed. Lou.
