Default Help with Pricing 1976 Corvette

Hi everyone,

I was hoping you can all please help me come up with a fair price for this Corvette I’m trying to sell. I’ll be going to a few car shows soon to show it off but I’m not sure what price I should ask for it. If you could all please let me know your opinions about a low, medium, and high asking price for it, I would greatly appreciate it. Oh, and please let me know if any of you would like to buy it yourself!

Thank you ☺

- Heather

I gave 11000 for mine last fall. Very similar condition except you have fewer miles. But mine is a 4speed, and yours an automatic. I would think start at 15000, you can always come down.

Hi Heather,
It looks like a very nice car.
The low mileage and general condition will make it attractive to people looking for an 'original' car as will the 'paper work' you have.
Were any of the parts that were replaced saved? If so, the new owner would likely want those too.
If your car were just a few years older (3-4-5) there would be considerable interest in it, but even so I think you'll find a buyer.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

Very nice. If everything works (gauges AC etc.) and the front and rear bumpers are original I would say $15K is a good starting point.

Wow.

This car has a lot going for it. Low miles, one owner, paper work, originality.

I think price really depends on how fast you want to sell it. I'm not sure on prices in your area, but in PA I'd price it as follows.

If you weren't looking for a quick sale I'd ask $17K - $18K.

Quick sale I'd ask around $13K - $14K

It's a little late now for this car but based on the mileage, I think your mechanic took advantage of you on items.... specifically... idler arms, rear wheel bearings but that wasn't your question. IMO, low 9k, mid 11.5k, high 13k. This is only based on condition and mileage...otherwise you'd be looking at 5k,7k,9k. The year is not desirable to collectors, I own one, that's why I customized mine, no damage to a more valuable year model, ie 74 and older. It would have been better for the wallet to have only repaired what was absolutely nec. and sold it but that's behind you. Your best gauge of what it's worth is to find out what cars of the same year and condition have sold for....an appraisal is only as good as the research and knowledge base of the appraiser, you could get a good or bad appraisal, more wasted money IMO. The buyer of your car is not a corvette collector, maybe someone who knows very little about corvettes, doesn't know not to buy post 74 C3's in most cases...I wish you luck and as others have said, can't hurt much to start out high, you can always come down gradually...hope you prove me wrong. Try auto trader, this forum, or not recommended Craig's list if you have a gun, husband, or you're trained in martial arts. BTW, yours is an early 76 FWIW.

Looks like a very nice car. I sold my very original '76 a couple of years ago for $13.2K in FL. I bought it new. It had all paper work and mtce records, was original (yellow) paint, an L48, auto, a/c, 90K miles and in 100% mechanical condition. It looked good but could have used a paint job. The interior was perfect. I would say take your time selling the car to find the right buyer. You'll know it when you find him/her as price will not be a major issue. There aren't many of what you have still around. Assuming it's 100% mechanically with paint, body, and interior in good condition, I'd probably ask $18K or so.

Not to be picky, but I believe the heater hose goes under the a/c compressor, not over it.

Good luck.

The car looks great, with everything in order. And you only have 11,000 miles on it. I would ask $17,000 - $17,500. And see what happens. That way you leave room to bargain. You can always go down, but you can't go up... Just like the dealers, they price them a few grand over what they are really looking to get. We all know, that everyone is going to bargain with you.

Agree, and excellent advice here, just sold my 76 4sp L82 mostly all original (later alternator and no smog equip) for just under 10, and my list of stuff was a lot longer than yours. Mine was in excellent shape but had 70K miles on it. I know another 76 base model, all original, very nice that would be happy to get the same and has not yet. Oh, the buyer of mine, one data point anyway, could care less about originality, and said he did not want the tank sheet, but he had a point though, nobody could read it He did say he had plans for the exhaust and the 4 bolt main too!

Very nice 76 Corvette you have!! BTW, the great thing about a 76, is you can drive it and run up miles, modify it as you like and enjoy it!! Too many other years end up being trailer queens, which is a shame! It is obvious that your Corvette was loved!
