Default Sun Visor Installation on 1968

I have the visor and hardware kit from Ecklers but I am not certain on how these are supposed to be installed...?!?

I thought it would be intuitive but since 68 convertibles mostly didn't come with visors it isn't for me.

Can anyone help point me in the right direction?

Thanks!!

Hi s,
All cars left St.Louis with sun-visors.
The mounting hardware was slightly different for the 68 model year.
Coupes and convertibles used the same visors and hardware.
Regards,
Alan

Inner mounting screw left and right.

Outer left side.

Love to see pictures of your beautiful 71 Alan! I bought visors for my 68 and the kit is unique compared to the rest of the C3's. There are pins that you actually have to poke through the visor. I didn't want to risk mutilating the leather, so I didn't make the attempt.

Yes, thanks you for the pics but I am still confused as to how to properly mount the visors... Any additional info would be greatly appreciated!!

The AIM shows the installation. As Alan explained, each visor has a left/right {or inner/outer} bracket which mounts to the windshield header. Visors slide on and off the brackets. 68 visors have an additional screw on the visor at each bracket which is intended to keep them tight.

Leave it to me to install the brackets upside-down

The visors stay up much better that way above 70 mph but they don't block as much sun.

I had to chase the threads in the tension nuts so the tension screws would tighten more once I installed the brackets correctly.

Thanks JC68 that helps a lot! How I have to figure out where to drill the screw holes on the visor.... How does that act to pinch the bracket to make it rigid to move?

Here is a picture of the other side. The two collars on the screws clamp onto the support rod to hold it up. It really doesn't work all that well which is why they changed the design for 69.

So it has to be the edge of the screw head / collar-washer (maybe 1/8 inch of space) that needs to be aligned on the collar then when the hole is drilled through the visor?

Get the screw as close to the support rod as you can but also make sure the rod it tight to the end of the shade. Your trying to pinch the support rod between the screw with collars on one side and the vinyl on the long end of the shade on the other.

If you place the screw holes to far from the edge of the shade you can't get enough tension to hold them up.

Thanks again! Should the shorter side of the visor (from rod opening to edge) be on the outside or towards the middle of the car

On my car the short side is on the outside. I'm not the original owner, but it is a pretty much left alone car, so I believe that is correct.

I just checked my 68. The short supports are on the outside of the car, due to the curve of the windshield header. Hope that this helps. Lou.

You shouldn't need to. Are your visors 69 and up?

The holes should be in the visors. No drilling required.

There are no holes in the visor material. There are holes in the metal underneath the material for the screws but you have to estimate where they are and "drill" through the visor material....

Funny Sun Visor story...I bought a '78 S/A about 10 years ago. The guy said , you probably didn't notice but it doesn't have sun visors...I never checked for that on any car I bought, so i said where did they go...he said that he meet Zora and he signed them...and no he would part with them...

My stock 68 visors have the holes in the vinyl. Unless yours have been recovered, the holes should be there.

Regardless, if you can find the holes in the frame, an awl will get through the vinyl.
