We recently inherited a 1971 Corvette. My question is if the seats are original or not. They are a saddle color maybe vinyl or leather but have cloth in the seat and back area of the seats.
Hi J,
Inherited a 71….. NICE!
It's sounds like the seat covers have been changed at some point.
The standard seat covers were vinyl with leather as an option. The vinyl pattern was called Comfort Weave and looked like it was woven. It was perforated so it could breathe and thus the name.
Regards,
Alan

Ok thank you. We are trying to decide if it is worth it to restore the car, or possibly sell it. I will have a better idea after all the fluids are drained and refilled. The car has been sitting in a garage and not been started for the past 10 years.

Remove the gas cap and take a good look inside. Make sure it's not rusty or contaminated with crap.

Thanks , I did do that it looks pretty clean. I am going to syphon it out though. Then I will put B12 in it along with some fresh gas. I just don't want any more headaches then I am sure I will have.
Suggestion: check the brakes. Original C3 brake calipers are prone to leak, so most have stainless sleeves at this point. So once you get it running, make sure it stops ok and be prepared if it does not.
Sounds like a nice gift, Congratulations! Find a Corvette enthusiast who is not a potential buyer who can help you evaluate it as C3's have some unique problems. Local Corvette club might be helpful for a nominal cost.

I definitely will be checking those, thank you for the heads up. I will be looking to find a club in my area. So far anyone local I ask just wants to buy it.
Hi j,
It would really be a good idea to have someone knowledgable about 70-72 cars take a look at it and give you an idea of just what you have.
This information may help you decide what you'll do with it presently or in the future.
From your small avatar picture it looks like this might be a very nice car!
Good Luck!

Alan

Congrats on your new car, and welcome to the crazy house!
If you decide to keep the car take a look at this thread and consider picking up some of the books listed, especially a service manual and an Assembly Instruction Manual. They'll be invaluable to you.
