Hey all, I will be taking my 71 to the cottage this summer and want to leave it up there for about as month. Will commute back and forth on my Harley and want it up there for some sweet up north cruising. My question is, I will be parking it on grass. No drive way at the place just a flat grassy drive way. ( most cottages are like that where we are ) I want to stake down a water proof tarp and park the car on top of the tarp covered with a out door car cover. Is this ground tarp a good idea? Trying to avoid moisture to come up from the grass and rot the heck out of my baby. Any thoughts would be great. Cheers.
Sounds like a good idea. Just make sure water will not pool up or else you will be defeating the purpose of using the tarp! A slight incline wood be good.
Seems like a good idea as long as the ground tarp is slightly SMALLER than the footprint of the cover. Otherwise, I would expect pooling of rain water in low spots of the tarp from when the cover sheds rain. If water pools in the tarp, I'd be afraid that the idea of covering the ground would backfire on you, because without a tarp, the pooling would otherwise absorb into the ground.
Maybe a couple 2x12s or a double layer of 2x12 with the ends staggered like steps. These full length "ramps" would raise the car enough to get some air under it, plus the tarp or plywood. I use a similar 2x12 "ramp" but just for two wheels to raise the car enough to get the jack under.
What about finding a near-by mini-storage place that also rents paved parking spots. If it's only for a month that would cost about $75 and be less of a hassle.
