Default T Top Part Question(s)

On page H 119 of the AIM for the '68 Vette is a little item called a Seal Strip, Item number 16 in the parts list at the top of the page and is illustrated in View A. Where can I get two of these? Has anyone fabricated them out of hard rubber or plastic? If so what dimensions did you use?

Hi 68,
If it's what's on 71 roof panels it's a soft, thin (1/16"), foam strip that had adhesive on the side that stuck to the ss trim.
I'm not sure if anyone offers something similar.
Regards,
Alan

Here is pic of what part I mean. Looks like a small rectangular strip with a slotted hole in it.

Hi 68,
Sorry!
It's not on 71 cars so I'm not sure what it is.
Regards,
Alan

I'll bet it is a rubber strip to help seal the connection or gap between the two trim pieces. If you made it out of hard rubber or plastic, the sealing properties may be lost, whether it be wind or rain.

Good point. I'll just make one out of soft rubber, unless Willcox or someone chimes in with an answer on where I might find one.

68 and 69 t-tops are different then 70-77 tops.

Unlike 70 and later tops, which use a one piece weatherstrip, 68-69 tops, use a two piece weatherstrip. That "seal strip" is only used on 68-69 tops, with the two piece weatherstrip, and goes under where the the two pieces of weatherstrip meet.

I don't know what the seat strip was made out of, and I'm not aware that it has been repro'd. I use to have a 68 top, in my pile of old t-tops. If I still have that top, and if the seal is still on it, I'll let you know what it's made of.

AIM callout seems to indicates it's only a seal.

I went through my tops today, and I can't be of much help. It looks like I've pretty much cannibalized them of anything I could sell off of them, in the past.
