Default Hood alignment fore and aft

Hi;
My '73 hood fits great except there is a 1/4 in gap along the front. The chassis manual states a 1/8 gap as norm , it also states to move the hood fore and aft loosen the bottom hinge screws and move accordingly. After doing so the hood would not move at all so I removed one screw thinking I would see and elongated slot that would allow the hood to move but the hole lined up perfectly with the bottom threaded assembly and allows no movement at all. would loosening the top hinge screws allow any movement ? Any thoughts on moving the hood forward 1/8 in would be appreciated.

It is possible by loosening up the bolts that hold the hinge to the hood you can get it to ,move forward. There is a little bit of play. If you can not get it....and you want this gap closed up some more....it will require a little bit of filing on the holes in the hinges to get what you are looking for. So a 1/16" on all four holes in each hinge will do it....and will not be severely noticeable.

ACTUALLY..I do not like the gap at 1/8". for me it seems too tight. 3/16" is fine....but an 1/8" is cutting it close. AND...the more you get the hood to go forward....be aware that when it is being opened and the support being set to hold the hood up...that your hood does not come too close to the hoses for your headlight actuators...if not actually hit them.

Thanks Dub, I thought about the filing method but wasn't sure. I thought I might be missing something simple, good to have someone else's thoughts, also thanks for the heads up on the actuators they are very close now so I will have to watch for that .

Keep in the mind, panel gap dimensions in the AIM and chassis manual are what the engineers wanted to see. In the real world of the assembly line, getting close was acceptable.

Also.......is it worth the risk of chipping the paint off the leading edge of the hood when you lower it to check the "new" gap?
