Default your advise??

Hey guys,
My '73 vette has a new tank but lately I spotted some little pieces of rubber etc.. on the bottom of it...they were some plugs/seals that were supposed to be removed before installation and now they're in little pieces sitting on the bottom possibly interfering with the filter!
I want to remove them by draining the tank and suck those things with a shop vacum.
Is this a good idea?...like I said the tank is new and I really dont want to remove it for this process but I dont want to damage anything either ...Thoughts?

Cheers

NOOOOO- Don't vacuum!!!

Drain the tank- drop your sender- and you can use compressed air to clean it out from the fill.

Can you buy a "Mechanic's Fingers that are long enough to grab the rubber pieces.......draining the gas and removing the sending unit to clean the tank would be the next choice as another member stated.

Long ago I saw little pieces of some type of rubber like material at the bottom of my gas tank. I used a thin wooden dowel and taped a staple that I straightened and speared each piece out without draining/dropping the tank.

Way, way back with my 72 that with the cap off I could fit my hand into the tank, I used a flashlight and saw all kinds of detritus including unknown particles and an insect leg, even what seemed like the glass from a broken lamp.
I just didn't like that crap in there, but I am really spooky over gasoline very allergic to it.

I took a dowel about as thick as a pencil and a couple feet long and attached a clear siphon hose and a small pen light higher up so as not to get into the fuel, I ran the hose dump end into a paint strainer and vacuumed the trash out of the tank, took my time and even reused the filtered fuel worked wonderfully

But man, I always get spooky working with gasoline.

Can you fill it with some gas and use a manual fuel transfer pump?

Loose stuff like that should not be injested, if you have a strainer sock on the tank outlet. Unless you have a lot of it in there, or it is something that could dissolve and plug your fuel filter, ignore it.
