If you had access to a 3D printer, what would you print for your Vette? I happen to have one at work and I am thinking of purchasing one for my home. They have several different materials you can actually use that are pretty amazing. One project I am really wanting to do is the front grill area. I would redesign it so I can install fog lights and a small turn signal integrated in the grill. What would you do?
I would make a 3D model of the grill area for a '68. The P.O. installed a ?'73-'76? front clip. I want to "convert" the fiberglass forward of the headlight opening to '68 dimensions so I can install '68 grills/turn signal lights/chrome bumper/grill trim pieces.
Below is a pic of the "??????????????"...............

However I used Shapeways.com instead as their printing process requires no supports for overhangs and I couldn't justify the costs for a real nice printer for the few parts I initially need/want.
Curious what people dream up to print for our C3s.
I never liked the way some sport mirrors tilt towards the side window (either due to generic sport mirrors or poor quality seals so I printed these to orient them more horizontal.
Ps if you buy one, avoid FDM. Its probalby too course or will need alot of cleaning up to get rid of the layers
Trick with getting rid of the layer effect.
Use a wash cloth and some nail polish remover or straight acetone. You can smooth the sides of a printed piece out pretty well if its ABS (Lego) plastic. It doesnt work as well for PLA (milk jug).
I converted my wiper and headlight doors to electric, and I`m thinking of making the astro vent flap electric too. So what I`d like to print, is an insert that would replace the ashtray in the console. Then I could mount my over-ride switches into that insert, where they`d be hidden under the sliding ashtray lid.
Would like to revive this. I just got a CR-10 3D printer, prints very large, just under a foot square by just under 16" (300mmx400mm). Haven't assembled it yet.

I would consider an extended stand-off or pedestal for the door rear view sport mirrors.
Make them 1" to 1.5" longer/taller so you could actually see something other than the rear wheel hump.
Something to fill the license plate hole on a 1980 front bumper.
I had some spacers printed for the tail lights I'm making and talked to the guy about it. I need to get some modeling clay still to make the piece which will be scanned, then printed.

That's a good one! Also, a factory look mirror with led turn siggy's!
And rear speaker covers for BMW E24's! Would be quite a few takers on that.
Really getting fed up with this fkin photo situation! Use bbc code with flikr and you get a double pic, cut out the line for the second pic and you get the pic, but with left right arrows to view your whole library! WTF!
Anyone have any suggestions?
