Default Market for Original Engine?

My '80 came with a YearOne 350/400hp crate engine installed, as well as the original 305.

Opinions Wanted -
Do I let it sit in the corner of the garage till I someday (maybe) decide to sell the car?

Is there a market for original vette un-molested 305/185hp engines?

This car isn't a "numbers matching show car" It's a fun driver.

Any suggestions what I do with this engine??

I would store the motor. Once its gone...there is no getting it back. Might not be "valuable" now but what will it be in 20 years?

If it were a big block 427 then sure but most of the people left that care are old bones last of their kind . Most of the young people don't even care about classic cars and they probably won't be spending much money on one if they do , so if the cars aren't those special big block cars and especially if it is a 305 low HP I wouldn't waste my time storing it. Have fun with the car and don't worry about the value.

I agree with bj1k. It is a rarer option of 1980, but hardly desirable. I hardly see much value in it, nor do I believe it will gain much in value in the next 20 years. Let it sit in the corner if you have the space, because I cannot believe there is much of a market for that motor right now. But if space was tight, I would have no qualms about selling it.

I'm storing and saving my numbers matching L48 from my '74.
Although I doubt there's any value. ......

25 years ago, people were yanking original big blocks, to replace them with more fuel efficient small blocks.

Who knows what the future will bring us.

I see both sides, keep or sell/junk. It's the #'s matching motor in case the next owner might want to put it in. Doesn't cost anything to store it - aside from "If I'm going to store it, I should properly store and seal it which would be a project in itself!"

I know I definitley am not thinking of ever using it! If something ever happens to the engine in it - I'd go bigger and badder than 400hp!

Was just throwing it out there - maybe hoping that someone would offer me an enormous amount of $$ for it! (haha)

Thanks for the feedback folks.

if you sell it, it will cost more to ship that what it is worth... you won't get much for a 305 smog engine, which is all it is to any other buyer.. it is only worth something if it is with it's original car.
