Vacuum problem
Had the dash all apart to install Dakota Digital VHX gauges and now have a problem with the headlights. Looks like a leak somewhere - hope someone can help track it down. When the car starts the headlights raise and lower. While the car is running they operate as they are supposed to. When I shut the engine off the right headlight opens. The left one occasionally try to open but doesn't.
The searches I've done suggests a bad relay but I went to a single relay years ago and the system has worked fine. Could it be a check valve or headlight switch?

Since you say it happened after you had the dash apart maybe you just had one of the vacuum lines fall off of your light switch.
Sounds like a vacuum leak in the command side of your vacuum system. Since it started when you had the dash apart my guess is one of your vacuum lines has come loose. Check that they are all plugged in. Check that the lines to the override switch are fully connected, I've knocked those loose before when working under the dash.

Thanks. I'm going to check the override lines again. I had to reinstall the "elbow" adapters on the valves because of the change in configuration down there. That might be the problem.

Ended up being 2 problems: Lines were reversed on the headlight switch and the rubber elbow on the override switch leaked badly. I corrected the lines on the HL switch and eliminated the elbow on the override. All is well!

Isn't that a GREAT feeling when you pulled the headlight switch and the lights popped up like they're supposed to !! Ha !! Nobody understands that feeling unless you've been in that situation !! I've been there too !!..... Tom.
