Default Dumb question

Getting ready to change the oil on my 77. On all my other cars I buy the manufacturers filter. I looked up on rock auto and see 2 listed one with a drain back valve one without. Which one should I use or what do you guys use?

The last time I changed the oil on my 77 I bought a K&N filter because it was closest that I could find to the AC PF-25 in length and capacity. It was also less money for a good replacement filter. The number is HP-2002. It comes with a built in nut on the end to aid in tightening as well. Can't recall how much it was, but it wasn't anything near what they're asking for the AC Classic filters. I believe that I bought it from Rock Auto as well.

Generally speaking, a valve is needed when the filter is screwed in sideways or upside down (opening on the bottom). A 350 filter screws in hole up so the anti-drain valve isn't needed. Have a great week, Bill

True. The Delco PF-1218 (with check valve) was developed for the 1990 ZR-1 where the filter went on sideways. No need for that on most 350s.
