So, to sum up, Bubba can drink a smallish-mini-keg of Molson by himself, and masquerade as an entertaining goof named Tom on a spin off of Fast and Loud, figure a way to somekinda-somethin rig somekinda-somethin together long enough to get us somewhere or fool us on the purchase of an inexactly-often inappropriately restored corvette variety mobile vehicle of varying degrees of plasticity, chrome, fiberglass, rubber, and perhaps aluminum, use his emptied beer cans to fix noses on C1's or exhaust on anything, employ hardware and or building materials for home renovation to varying degrees of effectiveness on those same mobile plastic/chrome/fiberglass/etc machines to the effect of either ticking us off or making us laugh, occasionally the way we ourselves would have done or denied doing it that way our selves. Sound about right?
Remaining question: Is there such a wookalar, yeti-like, sasquatchian, neo-cromagnon, finesse-lacking beast as the Bubba-ette? Bubbarista? And if so, what would the female "bubba" be named? Not Barbara. Not Mrs. Bubba. I want something entertaining, something whitty.
(And yes, this is a thread hijacking.)
Thanks for making ok if there are some things I don't like. I was worried what you might think if I didn't agree with you, but I wasn't talking to you. I responded to a three part statement specifically. It doesn't concern you or what you like and don't like. For example, one of the things I don't like is your attitude in most every thread you get involved with. But that's ok, right?
It IS okay...
Sorry the inner peace still eludes you
And I was the first in this thread to say I didn't like "vert" so lcommon with forums I like everyone tossed my 2 cents on the water...
Sorry you didn't "like" it...
My attitude IS horrible, I do not take forums or what any one says serious, I do have that type of sense of humor that I don't get all upset over what some forum troll said...And please do not take me serious at all...
Have a most wonderful Holiday weekend with special well wishes to those service people we all honor.

Just so you know when you throw crap into every thread I post in, I'm also one of those people mentioned in bold above.

Once again, I didn't quote you and I wasn't talking to you. I responded to the guy with three incorrect assumptions about vert users. If I want to respond to you, I'll quote you. I hate you're so far away, I'd like to meet up and see what you're really like in person.

You shared your opinion the guy was wrong 3 times I get that.
Okay, okay, while I did say I didn't like the expression "vert" first in this thread and you did go on a rant about it you are correct you were scolding someone else about it not me...I did what lots do on a forum and jumped in but for some reason you have a really big chip on your shoulder...leading to wanting to "meet up" with me, is that a vaguely masked threat or do you really wonder what I am like?
Several guys on here have met me I am a bigger clown in person than on here, seriously, was not trying to cause so much furor with you and do apologize and I will move on and hope you can to.

Boys calm down - I am sorry did I offend someone, how about "men".
This is the internet, put on your big boy panties and get over it. People nowadays are too easily "offended".
If anyone here should be offended, it is me. As a Southerner, I cringe every time I see Bubba used in a negative context. Using that term is not really any different than using the N word, or any other word that negatively identifies a group of people by place of origin or religious affiliation. Those not from the South, may have no idea that it is a commonly used negative identifier of Southern people. There are many other adjectives that can be used to describe substandard work, but I dont let it bother me.
Really, there is plenty of ignorance in the world and we should get used to it. One of our freedoms is speech, and I am all for allowing it.

I don't wear "panties" but if that is your thing so be it...
I am not the least bit offended with any of this, I keep saying I do not take forums or the people on them all serious, I didn't mean to so deeply upset that fellow so I apologized and tried to back out...I do hope that is done.
As for what you said I highlighted in red, well, that is very well said, I fully agree with you and pleased someone pointed that out that way, one reason I don't use the term "Bubba".
The way you compared it to the "N" word is perfect....

Let's not pick on Bats anymore. What do you expect from someone living in "Area 51 Bat Cave?" Personally I appreciate his humor and the occasional nugget of great advice he tosses out.

Bats, it was not necessarily directed at you. I get the feeling you deliver your thoughts with no malice intended, and take comments returned at their worth.
As a non native English speaker, I have always been fascinated by idioms and specific vocabulary use.
I encountered the term bubba very regularly on this forum and started wondering where it came from.
A quick google search did not bring any meaningful results.
Just to satisfy my curiosity, would anybody have some insight on where 'bubba' is coming from?
Apologies to the vette owner above for dragging you into this thread but i needed a way tie fishing to a vette forum.

Well I deserved it directed at me...I do let myself get drawn in...but no...never any malicious intent..just having fun like I would if we were at a cruise or show...
Calling a Corvette convertible a 'vert' indicates to me the person using the term is probably younger, spent time on a Fox body Mustang forum and isn't up to speed on C3 slang yet.
You'd be wrong on all three counts. Calling a convertible a "vert" in written or typed form is no different than Vette for Corvette, or 4spd for four speed. It's just faster and easier and still understandable. Anyone who texts LOL and ROFL and all that should understand. Convertible is hard to type and hard to spell, vert is not, yet you still know what body style car being discussed. I don't know of anyone who uses "vert" in conversation, it's just a convenient shortcut and odd that someone would pick that as a stereotype. What do you think of Chevy, and Caddy? How about tranny for transmission? How about "tach" for tachometer? Embrace "vert" and learn to love it. You'll finally have inner peace.
Thx for the lengthy tutorial on the usefulness of abbreviations. I've been online since 1987, well before the web and open forums like this. Most of the acronyms used today originated back then. I really don't care what word you use but I do know 'vert' originated in the early Fox body Mustang forums because I was there. I bought my first 5.0 'Stang' brand new in 1990. The car met an untimely end but I still have the low mileage engine and tranny stored in my shop. I've had several other 5.0's over the years. By the early 2000's used 5L's were cheap and plentiful. Young guys were buying them and they started calling the convertibles 'verts'. The traditionalists didn't like it much and it caused some heated discussions. I occasionally see vert used here now but it seems like most old school Vette guys use terms like roadster, droptop or ragtop. Some of the faster typists even say convertible. I usually go with ragtop. It's only 2 more letters than vert.
Bubba came along and did some work on my '79 with a previous owner, this is some of what he did:
Aw crap...perhaps I am more Jalopy ( Bubba ) minded than I thought.
Tried to repair a crack in the fiberglass with bondo. I still need to undo this. I have used dura glass many times for small cracks not gouges and it worked fine for me.
Ran a wood screw through the center console into the transmission tunnel to hold it down Guilty...I was 17 had a 72 4 speed and the console was everywhere, the stock tabs gone I did just this fix...I used the stock screw holes though.
Installed a huge subwoofer box along with two small speaker boxes in the rear, loose, with exposed wires going straight to the battery My 66 had the bazooka tube amps etc hidden wires though and all the extra alarm in the rear hatch/glove box, that the glove box doors were c3.
Installed a huge tachometer, using wood screws into the pillar molding Okay, I would never do that but I think add on tachs are cheesy anyway.
Installed a smaller aftermarket steering wheel with a **** bolted to the wheel for some reason Some of the stock wheels are too big and too thin...The **** is to help turn the wheel because the smaller wheel made it harder to turn, had suicide ***** in trucks never a vette.
Completely removed the windshield wipers and motor assembly same in my 69 it had a smoking hot short and it's out waiting for me to rebuild or replace it.
instaled a bra to cover up front end damage...although I'm not sure I wouldn't do this too lots of c3 owners do this so..
Incorrectly replaced the overflow tank with an aftermarket pressurized tank, plumbed incorrectly.again that 72 I had at 17 I used a large dish wash soap bottle for the puke tank, installed it behind the egg crate, my current 69 will have a jack bottle for a puke tank...
There's more but I can't think of it all. Here is what the interior looked like when I bought it:
I have learned with these bubba threads Some things this forum calls "bubba" are no doubt hack job but some is just doing the best fix one can with what they have and it does work just fine it's only dissed because it is not stock factory....

Yeah I agree. I do a lot of things that some might consider bubba. I used a baking sheet to make a fan shroud. It looks fine and works well. Everyone has their different standards for repair.
Many years ago while attending a local car show I overheard two Corvette owners discussing "short cuts" which had been created by the previous owners. Both were middle aged white males.
One used the term "Afro American Engineering" without first looking to see who was standing within hearing distance........ Not a pleasant outcome.
