Need some sound advice. Trying to get the AC system working better on my '72 convertible. Took the evaporator core out and found a good amount of leaves in the box. It's the original core but was not leaking.
My two questions are:
1) Should I replace the original evaporator core now that I have it out? Not wanting to spend another $300 but don't want to do this job again for a long time.
2) Can the heater core be replaced from the firewall side without going into the dash area?
I took the evaporator core, POA valve and expansion valve and sent them to Classic air and they rebuilt the originals and replated the valves for $400.00 I am still going to use R12 on their suggestion. The heater core needs to come out through the inside passenger area. I am also restoring a 72 convertible.

Thanks for the response 69FASTFUN. Classic air is currently rebuilding my POA valve. What is involved with the restoration of the evaporator core? I also plan on using R12.

They clean and pressure test the evaporator. I sent them as an assembly so they will send back ready to use they also plate and rebuild the expansion valve they have shipped them back to me and I should receive next Friday I will take some pictures and post.
