I recently read an ad where the seller of a 76 was talking down his own car by saying.. "I know this is not a desirable corvette..."
I love my 76 and had it out the other day and snapped this picture. I know its not the fastest and the steering wheel is from a Vega but the lines are just as beautiful as any other. I just don't understand the hate towards the 76..Especially on Memorial day! Red white and Blue suits this car.
Mostly I see people on here trash others cars,
I sometimes see cats on here degrade things in what seems to me like a monkey see monkey do type idea to try to "fit in" or just to diss and trash talk.
I have odd views and opinions on c3's,
They are just cars made to be driven.
I dig modifying but have nothing against bone stock it's just not my cup o tea.
I lump the c3's in 68-69 then 70-72 then the lonely 73 the 74-77 and the 80-82, I do not put any year over another year like some like to do, but sure I have my favorite options that in stock only came certain years.
76...I owned one should have kept it, Mike is getting a 76 that will become a daytona wide body or mako.
The 76 have the cool bi centennial connection and "vega" wheel...I believe the vega got a vette wheel that year.
I don't know what it is.. but the more I see them the more I think they are a great opportunity to buy. There is something about the 80's dash and electronics that just grabs me..
What's important is that you like your '76. It's a good looking car and an American classic. Many folks gravitate towards the chrome bumper cars (shoot, I am a '69 fan myself) but any Corvette is a worthy road car IMHO. Any year, any engine, any options. You make of it what it is.
As for C4s that's right in my wheel house of faves (I own an '88) and love them.
To a piker walking down the street, a '70 looks just like a '76 from 40 feet away and 35mph. Except for the bouncy-bumpers and fish gills, it's the identical body. And both carry 'Stingray' - port and starboard.
And really - are the interiors all THAT different? Looks like the same damn setup to me, right down to the instrument cluster and "snappy" substitute for where the glove compartment would later go.
Sure, the similarities end there - especially when you're staring at your speedo/tach through a steering wheel made of the same stuff on the car's rear end.

Looks a lot like my baby, also a 76. And I like you love her!
My `76 L48 gets lots of thumbs up, waves, people hollering cool car and somebody always wants to look at it when I stop somewhere. It's pretty distracting sometimes so I'm glad I don't have a more desirable model.
C3's are iconic. Period. Car guys....bike guys....quad guys...snowmobile guys are the group that looks at a certain ride and says "Oh look, there is a blah blah blah blah, right down to the year, engine, tires, seats, transmission....You get the idea..
So when the average Joe Schmoo sees a C3, it's a simple call..."There is a Corvette!" It can not be mistaken for any other car. That said, the 180 horse 79 L48 gets the same love and admiration, as the 70 big block car will get. They are all an ICONIC C3.
When the C3 guys see a C3, that's when the difference shows up! So yes, at the gas station or red light, the 76 will get the same amount of attention as the early C3 big block. It's a dirty little secret among US that you can still get into a nice (mid to late 70's-82) C3 without winning the lottery. I wonder how long that will last? And I wonder how many Joe Schmoo's know there is no 83?
Enjoy your car...it's b e a u t I f u l .....don't worry about what a bunch of old blue haired morons think.....and the idiots at some magazines ......they made a lot because they were very popular cars.......and they were good sports cars for their time.

Thanks for all the kind words. I couldn't turn down a 23K mile original car for sale by the original owner with all the paperwork.. even if it was a 76!
