I just bought a dark green 74 coupe with tan interior. The wife and I (and the dog) are taking our "first" drive in the car (other than going around the block) No AC so I had the windows down, plus the dog was wanting to do the dog thing and look outside.
We are going over to a friends house - he wants to drive my new vette - I'm happy to let him - because - well you know, share the love of and for the car.
About half way, we pull up to a red light... and guy pulls up on passenger side and yells "I'll pay you 15 thousand cash"... took me a second to register that he wanted to buy the car... I yelled back, "No, I just bought it" (I haven't even titled it), light turns green and we start driving...
The wife then mentions... "I should have sold him the dog".
Just got the 68 all redone after 6 months on jack stands and left the tire store after getting the front end aligned. Headed off to get some no ethanol gas and a Ruby Red 93 passed me on the interstate and flagged me over. Since I like Corvette folks and have a very special weakness for Ruby Red's, we pulled over at the next exit and we talked Corvettes for 30mins. The dude really wanted to buy my 68 and asked several times. This with no trim rings, no derbies, and part of the dash still not assembled. I told him that I have only driven it a few times but would call him if I decided to sell. He had a nice Ruby Red too!
BTW, my wife tells me don't bother coming home, if somebody offers me big bucks for our Corvette and I do not take it (wonder if I am supposed to walk home??).

I learned many years and many Corvettes ago, that when people make completely unsolicited cash offers to buy my car like that, I accept every time and ask how we will do they cash transfer.
I really don't want to sell my car, but you never know. So when someone asks my how much would I sell it for, I give them a crazy number. Who knows maybe they just hit the Lottery or came into a big windfall and would like spend it on something nice. I can always buy better one then I have now. I've got 35k into my car now and I always tell them 50K, no luck yet.
About 15 years ago the neighbor lady ask me to sell my '73. I figured she wasn't serious and blew it off as a loose offer. A week later she comes home in a new white convertible.
Yeh, my '72 old custom show car can bring out a conversation really quick, it is a RARE outing that someone don't note the car and ask, like the other day a trip to Home Despot.....and some lady on the right side of my car when I parked....loading her stuff in the trunk, asks about what YEAR that is.....always the same ? funny how that goes with the '68 Olds tail lights in the rear, and the modernized fixed front lights/grill/etc....and the somewhat 'antique' looking paint job that was NOT my intention when painting it some years ago.....so on this HD trip on the way out of the place I get conversations with TWO guys about the car...other customers....I dunno WTF it IS, but that car gets folks asking what YEAR, and my favorite reply is....What YEAR do you like??? it's got parts on it from '65 through '94 take your pick.......There is nothing particularly flashy or outlandish about the car, the paint in fact is rather dull, and not GOOD at all....
I have to ASSume that Jacksonville Fl. is a car town......see site for a few pix.....
Man, I would have to think long and hard on what the magic number would be for myself. It took a long time to find "the one" that I wanted. This one has every thing I was looking for except for the color. Really wanted the dark blue, but this sweet silver is great too. The only way I would sell it is if the amount was crazy, and knowing I could find another in just as great of shape as this one.
Yep, this dark green 74 4 speed with tan leather and AC was what I was looking for... The only thing I don't care for is the electric windows... Wanted crank, so my kids would experience cranking up and down windows - but I must admit, having electric is handy for rolling up down that passenger window.
Searched for probably a little over 2 months with thousands of Craiglist email notifications when this showed up 1100 miles away... So a 36 hour round trip to drive from Dallas to Lansing MI and back made it mine.
While it would be an awesome return on investment, I have no intentions of selling... Only throwing money and time at it.... Let my kids worry about it when I'm gone 😄
My story is similar too.
My cars a 68 BB.
I'm working off a friends lift and a guy walks up and asked me would you sell ever sell it?
I told him if I could find something else that gives this much driving pleasure yeah, but right now I don't know what car that would be.
I don't think he was expecting that answer.
Again as said in earlier post did he have the money who knows.
