looking at buy a project, the one with the flaking emron paint.
went for a second look today. on the hard top the paint and gelcoat are worn, flaked or maybe sanded off to where you see the bare fiberglass, there is also a 6 inch spot on the 1/4 panel. is this a serious issue or is it a prime and paint deal
It is near impossible to diagnose paint problems without seeing - pictures?
Gel-coat may have been added, but it didn't come with it originally. A paint job is only as good as its foundation.

If it's only warn down to the bare fiberglass in a few spots, it's not so serious. You can add some fiberglass resin or Bondiglass to create a fesh top surface. However, if the fiberglass is worn in larger sections or so much that it easily flexes or you could punch a hole in it with a screwdriver, you may need to consider panel replacement.
I haven't bought the car yet, and didn't take any pics/
the 20 year old emrom paint is peeling back around the front and side of the hard top, almost like some one took a DA on it around the edges. but the paint edge isn't smooth its rolled up, and other paint spots are rolled up around the car but haven't been touched.
srtill waiting for an answer on my offer
if you look around the window edge you can see the white, that bare fiberglass.
you see the white spot on the right side just behind the convert panel
Factory fiberglass was gray. If the white areas in the pic are actually bare (hard to tell in the pics), you could be looking at replacement panels. They might also be non-stock gel-coat applied at some point in the past, possibly prior to the Emron. What does the seller say?
