IN time...the rust will gain momentum and begin to lift any coating off. Even the galvanized coating on a new fence will rust in time once the coating is exposed to the elements. Chrome will allow rust to develop if chipped of or deeply scratched.

For those who do not know this.....the THREE components that cause rust. BARE FERROUS STEEL(iron).....MOISTURE....and AIR. Take any ONE of the three away and you will not have rust.

Dub, I agree a 100%. That is why original car parts like half and drive shafts get rusty. GM never put any type of rust preventive on their parts back in the old days. So we do the best we can with what we can find. P0R-15 is one of the best, but follow the instructions to the letter for best results.. I just wish they had a Clear Coat that would work on the bare metal parts... Droop

You can use clear coat to prevent rust. I have "bare" parts that I hit with spray can clear almost 8 years ago that still look perfect. Like Dub said, just make sure it isn't chipped or scratched

Condo, Found a product this afternoon called "Triple Thick Glaze" made by RUST-OLEUM. A auto paint shop I know of has used this product. Going to give it a try... thanks for the info.. Droop

I will write this....and I am sure many of you will agree. The 'tricks' we all have found to keep our Corvettes in presentable condition often times can surprise us and actually work....and there is NO magical mixture that will make it so a part will NEVER have to be revisited and reconditioned again...some do come close though. In time...everything will fail. All 'we' can do is the best we can.

"Droop"...Give some feedback on that 'Triple Thick Glaze'..I would like to know how well it works and lasts in time and how it looks when applied. I often times get concerned when it is a glossy finish that 'just does not look right'....on some parts.

DUB, I plan on testing it out next week on my half shafts. I'LL leave one of the shafts outside till I install it in about a month. Florida sun and rain. Keep you up to date on the experiment. Droop

for what it is worth...if leaving it outside in the rain and sun....I would apply a light coat of grease on the inside of the holes where your U-joints go...so they do not begin to rust up....and it can be easily wiped out when you put the U-joints in...if they are not already in.
