Hey guys, I am a novice first timer and have a dilemma. I'm looking into buying a 69 C3 and I'm torn between two, both matching numbers, car in the link is not the original color, what would be a fair asking price for this one??

The other car is basically identical but with a frame on restoration painted the original color,he's asking 20k but the air doesn't work and needs bushings. What would a fair price be?thanks guys I really appreciate it.

The eBay Vette he is asking about is the black small block coupe being sold by Crane.
It's auction 121677301309.
The price seems pretty fair. Since he's asking a best offer you will be able to get it a little cheaper. Too bad it's not the original color.
The silver Craigslist car looks rougher even though it has the correct color. They left the holes over the gas tank for the luggage rack. Don't like that at all.
Of the two, the black car would be my choice, lots of interesting options, better shape. Offer 20k. Enjoy it, who cares its not the correct color. It's not a big money car anyway.

Is the Smog pump significant? Do you think the silver one is is worth 20k?
Only from a real collectors standpoint. As for its impact on a running car it's actually better running without one. That's why they were all removed early on in life. They rob horsepower and sometimes cause backfiring. They were meant to reduce emissions.
Don't worry about it with these cars. Not worth spending $1500 for the setup on these.
Is the silver car worth 20? I can't really answer that without seeing it in person but unless its a total mechanical mess its probably fairly priced. If it has the original drivetrain, is a clean car and its under 20 its priced fairly.
Unless the frames are rusted out completely I don't think you will get hurt on either car if you choose one.
I have driven several, pretty set on a 69 with matching numbers, just unsure on how much to spend. I'd like to put myself in the best situation, get one at a fair price(up to 25k),that's pretty complete and will appreciate in value.
Thanks Ed,frame and birdcage are clean on the silver, paint and body is also clean, just needs bushings and work done to the AC,just not sure how much work.
Do you guys still think the silver 69 would still be a good buy(around 20k) when it still needs bushings and could take around 2k to fix the AC?
Best way to know is have someone familiar with C3s inspect it. Tough to make a call based on the pictures and very limited description. Looks like the bushings, AC, luggage rack and who knows what else got missed during the restoration....
P.S. How do you know the frame and birdcage don't have rust issues? Just taking the seller's word for it? I would be careful because there is a lot of misrepresented stuff out there.

Thanks for your response, I was able to take silver car to a mechanic to look it over, he put it on a lift and walked me through everything, numbers match, frame is solid, phoenix born car,new brakes, and exhaust. Mechanics only concern was the bushings,my only concern is the AC, just not sure if it is going to take some freon, or if its going to take a complete overhaul as the mechanic was not equipped to diagnose the AC.

Did you check out the headlight and wiper operation? How about the heater, blinkers, horn ec? Do you plan to do your own wrenching? If not the bills will add up quick. Don't want to dissuade you, but you need to be prepared for the ongoing maintenance costs.
If there are no rust issues, mechanics, paint and interior are good, plus original drive train it sounds like a decent car for upper teens. If you're not sure keep looking there's a lot in Cali!
Would that be a deal breaker for you? If so, ask the seller why the AC has not been topped up/repaired before the car was listed.
The seller has multiple vettes(58 and 66), just drives them in fair weather and doesnt feel the need for working AC. My main concern is that the car has not sold in 3 months at 20k, if I can talk him down a grand and I have to put in around 2k for AC, and $700 for bushings, now I've paid 22k or so for a car that apparently isn't worth 20k. Am I looking at this correctly or am I looking at this on a too short of a term basis.
When considering a car I always ask myself what could I get if I had to turn around and sell? Sound like you don't like the answer to that question. Other option is making a much lower offer and if he does not like it then move on with the search. No sense in setting yourself up for buyer's remorse if you are not comfortable with a deal.

Always be respectful to the seller.
To start the negotiating process I'd mention the importance of the AC to you, and note the additional dollars required to get it working, along with the expense of the bushings.
He has been trying to sell it 3 months that you are aware of..I'd offer $16K cash..and realistically settle at $17K (if I had to have that one).

Thats what I did, he didn't budge, only reason he is selling is because his wife is making him get rid of one of his cars. He seems to be firm around 19k. I definitely don't want to miss out on a potentially great car because he's a grand high, but at the same time don't want to make poor decision.
