Here's my solution for replacing my pop-up headlights on a 1976 L48.
I had these on a previous car and they always broke down leaving me with a popeye!! No more!
Converting to dual HID + Halo lights taken from a 1998 Acura Integra.
Although it is my personal opinion that pop-up headlights belong to a C3 no matter what, i do respect the effort en craftmanship you put into this remarkable solution.
Very interested in the final outcome.
At least your solution looks a lot more in place than the butt-ugly rectangular sets i see so often which look horrible to me (rectangular headlights on a curvy car with no straight line whatsoever is a nightmare from a design point of view...)
i'll personally will never remove the pop-up headlights but will convert them to electrical on my '80 so i never have to deal with the crappy vacuum system and both lights will open simultaniously.
Great work so far! I also went to electric.
Any thought to extend the point on the nose.... to maintain the original look without the headlights extending beyond the front line? I think the exaggerated point on the front would look awesome! Looking forward to watching your progress!

Yes, great idea. I now have the 80's style pointed nose conversion for the 76 I'll be installing. I like these better than the original front bumpers on the pre-80s. It's cleaner and pointier!!!
pretty cool idea. I wonder if you could make those lights work in the stock pop ups.
Nice idea. I couldn't find a match for the round lense for the c'3s to do that conversion so I went with these Integra lights. They come in a single housing with dual lenses. Not sure if separate would work with the way Halo light base housings.
I would like to sew something like that but with a c6 or c7 light... ore maybe a long slender slit like 1" X 15"ish at the bottom side of the pop up lower line
I will wait and see if a photo is posted at night ( or a YouTube video of it driving at night) to see if the light actually does what it needs to do. With the lights set back so far into a housing (and not up in front) ...I am curious if it will shed light on the ground....or if the bottom of the new housing is like a curtain and keeping the light from lighting up the ground as like normal.

Hmmm.... good point! Possibly he`ll need to add some driving lights below? A couple ideas here....
That is why I will wait and see. I am not trying to come of as doubting that it will work...I just have my reservations. A lot has to do with how the light that are being used actually shoot the light, I hope they are perfect....honestly I do. I know I would have taken it out at night on a dark road and see what happens before I went into actually beginning to make parts and bond them in...which I hope works and holds up to time.

Yes, Good point about the setback and light spread that the lights will actually create when lit at night. I did a test mock up of the lights before fabrication and the outside spread does get cutoff some because of the recess. So I imagined like "oldgto" mentioned about some fog lights in the front grill. I think the combo will make it work.
I attached an image of the Integra configuration. My fab is slightly deeper so will have decent spread.
Thanks for all the comments. It's been fun so far.
Why is a good question: I bought this 76 stripped of many components. Lights were just one item missing. Purchasing the new system was about $1200 +/-. so I spent $60 on the new lights and some hours on fabrication and used the money saved for engine upgrades. More of a monetary decision from the start.

Yes, I think that some PIAA type front fog lights will work like the silver Vette in the picture yo posted. Do you know the brand of those? It'll be going into the front grille of the 80's style front bumber I converted from the original 76.
