Default Spark plug wires

I picked up a 74 L82 coupe and have been restoring it over the past 4 months. After replacing the radiator I thought I had seen the worst of it. I was wrong. It took practically all weekend to change plug wires. I appreciate the hidden wires but when I had to remove the starter, P/S pump and loosen both motor mounts before i could pull the tins and run wire, I was a bit astonished. Most of the upper tin was missing and after playing contorsionist for a few hours I can only imagine the PO started the project and gave up. Still love the car.

my 79 which i have imported into Aust, when i had it up on a car hoist, i was wondering what these leads where that hung down from the lead protectors, turns out PO had just cut leads and then put new leads in so i had old spark plug leads just hanging from motor and never saw them till i had it up on car hoist

New spark plug wires can be shoved thru the motor mounts easily by smearing any dish washing liquid on them first to reduce friction. There is no need whatsoever to loosen the motor mounts or remove the power steering pump or anything else for that matter.

Should have asked for advice before doing the spark plug/wires thing. You don't need to remove any components and they can still be routed correctly.

Next time you have a 'testy' little project, ask for help here if you need a "head's up". All of these "projects" have a learning-curve if you are doing them for the first time. Experienced advice can really save a lot of grief for you.
