Woke up this morning early and got on the road around 5:30 to try to get into the mountains before sine rise, missed it by about 20 minuets but had a wonderful view of the sun coming up from behind the mountains. Did a short cruse up to a small lake and headed back, over all covered about 180 miles. It was a cool crisp morning and a guy I meet along the way told me his cars showed that it was 54 degrees, this was around 7000 ft. My car was running a little rich as it was tuned at the valley flour where it is usually in the 90s and at 4500 feet but it still ran good and strong.
Here are a few photos.
Your '79 reminds me of my '78 I bought in '79 and sold in '84 black with tan interior.
That's a good looking car you have and great pics. Thanks for posting.
7500 ft at 54* is a 9000 ft density altitude and 4500 ft at 90* is a 7500 ft density altitude. So as far as your car was concerned you were 1500 ft higher than normal, it would run a bit richer. Would be interesting to run up there on an 80* day at 7500 feet and see what the performance loss would be.
Where you at that you can make that much altitude change in short distance?

The third one looks like something they should have used for a magazine ad back in the day.
Those are all really nice and would be my wallpaper on my computer at work for sure. :-)
Beautiful mountain scenery and winding roads. That is what Corvettes are made for. Ok, maybe that's just one of the things they're for. Thrilling kids ranks right up there too. My niece and nephew have been telling everybody they had a ride in a race car at my father's 86th birthday picnic yesterday.
Thank you all for the positive comments on the cars photos. This is in Utah not far from Park City. I am thinking of a similar drive for next weekend close to Provo. Any one from the Salt Lake City area have any tips for a good area for a drive?
Very nice - how do you keep your black Vette so dust-free???
It's only dust free for a few minutes after I wash it. It is a dust magnetic. I can wash my sequoia and drive it a week and it is cleaner than my vette 1 hour after washing it sitting in the garage!
I do have a California car duster that works well for light dust.

Totally Jealous! It was that kind of morning here this moring and that is my absolute favorite thing to do, except I'm in the blue ridge near Harpers Ferry, but nothing like hitting the mountain roads at dawn when everyone else still asleep!
