Looking at a 79 L48 4 speed . Its in pretty good shape...was painted bout 15 yrs ago....base coat/clear coat...interior is good for a 36 yr old car. Frame is very good. When the owner of 25 yrs had it repainted he drilled out the rivets and removed the trim tag so it wouldnt get sprayed over...go figure...my question is does it hurt the value of the car that much...??...
Hi l,
Was the tag put back on, if not, is it still around or did it disappear?
It's really an issue only if a prospective owner wants to have the car judged for it's originality.
Often people remove the tag if they want to change the car's exterior color. For most people the question is how well done was the color change…. jambs, difficult to paint areas, etc.

Alan
Hi l,
As I said, it's a VERY big deal if one is buying this car with the intention of having it judged for originality sometime in the future.
It doesn't matter much at all to many people.

Alan
That's entirely up to you as a potential buyer. It would almost certainly be a deal breaker for me, but I'm not buying.
Good luck.
One question is, what color was it painted? If its black or red, and you can see a little green or baby blue under the carpet a little, you know why he "can't find" the trim tag.
