Thanks to you all for being the sounding board.

Thanks Bats! I always have liked your candid feedback. Very helpful. I'm on my iPhone and watching Royals enjoying a couple cigars. I'll get to your email tomorrow from my computer.

That's very generous of you to give the Champion a new home!

And yes, a built in cooler on a stick shift car is a big old waste...unless you want to cool some other fluid with it....

Ya know, if you add a pump of some sort, you could magyver cooling lines for the rear diff, and cool off the gear oil

Dewitts radiator looks to be a fine product, I just do not see the cost. Plus, I am sure if the o/p used the same amount of massive strength on the Dewitts as he used on the champion he will most likely have the same end result. Next time remember Both products are aluminum, you cannot treat them as if they are steel. Add some teflon to the fittings and tighten it a little. Start it up, if it doesnt leak you are good. If there is still a drip, tweak it a hair more. To spend $200 on a good radiator, screw it up, then go buy a $500 radiator, thinking it will handle things better, to each his own. Believe me, I have not walked on eggshells with my Champion and it is holding up fine.

Default De Witts

Ok I just ordered my new De Witts Radiator. John at DeWitts was very helpful on the phne.

I ordered the 1149077A (1.25" tubes) with a larger oil cooler built in with the AN-6 fittings installed also.

It will be a couple weeek before I see it as it needs to be built with the larfger oil cooler but I think it going to be work it.

I need to make sure I can keep 500 hp cool.

That's not difficult. I have a stock '69 copper/brass small block radiator that cools my zz502 with 502 hp without any problems.

I think 500 hp in a SBC is going to be a little more difficult. A lot less water jacket in a SBC. That HP in a BBC is easier and less work form the BBC's to produce. I have had a few BBC and really like them. Had a 500 hp BBC in a 71 Camaro with stock radiator andit too cooled nicely. Thought about one for this car and just couldnt make it fit the budget without cutting a corner some place.

If anything, it's just the opposite. Depending on the efficiency, it takes X amount of fuel to produce 500 hp. I think it's safe to assume that a big block is slightly less efficient than a small block (everything is bigger, more friction, more weight to accelerate). Therefore the big block will use more fuel to produce the same amount of hp than a small block would. Using more fuel produces more heat. You see where I'm going here?

Yep. Makes scence. More fuel more heat. I just know the sbc has to work harder to produce big HP/TQ LIKE BBC. That is where I was thinking. Either way either engine C3 are a cooling challenge. I'm happy with my choice on the DeWitts mostly for the oversize internal Trans cooler. Should all be good.
