Is there a reason that none of the vendors list a spindle flange for an '81 automatic? I feel like my driver's side spindle to flange joint is worn and want to replace both components with new.
I'm getting a pinging noise in the wheel when the spindle gets loaded up. I think there might be some play in the splines. Could also be the U-joint or the bearings. I plan to just replace everything. Spindles are easy enough to find but a new flange isn't listed or available. I see what looks like the right part on ebay but for big money.

No one makes the yoke at this time. GM Discontinued them and there are not many used around to be sold. I looked on eBay too, looks like your guy got his part number wrong too. Funny, they were 74.25 in 1984 (below is copied from the old parts book) 80-81 Y W/AT.............. 14018209 2 74.25 YOKE. SPDL
Before you go buying one you might want to make sure yours is bad. We never sold or replaced many of these yokes and about the worst thing you would have is one with a groove cut in it from the seal and even that's pretty rare.
IMHO, I'd check the fit of the U-joint cap in the yoke to see if there is any play but your noise is probably the U-Joint.
