Default Dip Stick

Hi,
I had posted this in the Tech & Perf. forum a while back but had stated the wrong dimension, so not having received a correct answer (my own fault) I thought I would try here.

Does anyone know the correct length of the transmission dip stick from the outside top cover to the full mark. P/O changed them, the oil wasn't even close, I got a new oil.

The existing tranny dip stick measures, from the outside top of the cap to the full mark 25 9/16" and 26" to add.

The car is 79 all stock L48 350, tranny is TH 350,
I don't believe anyone has changed either tube.
I have searched the forums and google and haven't found a satisfactory answer, as close as I have found, one vendors catalog gives the oil as 21" from cap to add. but nothing for the tranny.

any help would be appreciated
Thanks
Brian

The original dipstick measured 27 1/4" from the tip to the end. All original sticks are marked 1244421 (replaced by p/n 10017293 in 1983).

Thank you I'll see what mine measures from the tip, my measurements were from the cap like you show, but to the full mark, and add mark, if the overall is correct, what are the chances the full and add are correct?
Do you carry the correct one?
Thanks, Brian

Nope.. they are drying up... But what people don't know is that the same dipstick fit a horde of other cars... So you might want to go to a local transmission rebuilder and see if they may have one lying around, if it's correct it'll have part number above on it.

The replacement stick 10017293 is a junk generic fit all style dipstick.

If a PO changed the dipstick AND the tube, there's no way anyone can tell you what dipstick you need. What you really need to know is how far below the oil pan splitline the FULL mark on the dipstick should be. Then, you can measure from the top of YOUR dipstick tube to the oil pan splitline, add the 'splitline-to-FULL' distance, then mark the new FULL mark at that distance on YOUR dipstick.

I would go measure that distance on my car, but it's stored at the top of my 4-post lift, right now.

Thanks for the reply, I think the tube is original, but in any case your info. is helpful, I'll see about getting that info.
Thank You
