I am wanting to rebuild my engine next summer due to it just having alot of issues so i want to start fresh. I would like to do a stroker kit and i have seen alot of people like the 383 kit. i have a L82 1977 Corvette. Any tips or anything i should know? All help is appreciated
I cant comment on the kit but considered one and later opted for a 383 Stroker short block from Summit. I wanted a 4 bolt block anyway which I didnt have in my Vette and I figured by the time spent money on prepping the block and fitting pistons etc. I was just as well off spending 2000 on a finished short block with a warranty.
If your L-82 is original with correct VIN stamp, and you are going to buy new, buy a complete crate engine and mothball the L-82 would be my advice. The L-82 heads in a 77 do not flow that great and have 76cc chambers. I would go with a complete 383 crate and put your L-82 in the empty crate for possible future use. or,..
you could build the L-82 into a 383 and keep the numbers matching element and still claim it's a stock L-82. If you go that route find a local engine guru to help you match the components and re work the heads.
Or go better heads and mothball the orig heads. Standard valve job is 400. Real head work, making them better than stock is a lot of labor. Easy 1000. That 1400 will buy you heads you could never match by reworking yours.
