Default If it's not one thing...

On the 4th of July while heading to the Goodguy's heartland nationals the 77 developed a severe misfire and it was dumping raw feel in the side pipes. Which then sounded like a cannon going off as the fuel burned in the pipe. I tracked the problem down to loose spark plug wire, that seemed to fix the problem.

Then about two weeks later the misfire came back and while I was trying to diagnose that problem I heard a loud 'pop' and the engine compartment filled with steam! REALLY!?

Yesterday I was finally able to tear into everything:
Found the misfire-

And the steam... heater hose burst-

The plus side is a cut trailing arm bushing is the perfect size to plug the hose temporarily to move the car!

And this was my assistant for the morning-

His name is Aaron, he is the son of one of our friends. He is severely autistic, he works best in the supervisory role, but he likes my car because it's recognizeable and it has racing numbers on the doors (like Herbie - one of his favorite movies)

So while nothing ever goes to plan, it all worked out pretty good, and I'll take easy fixes all day long

For your two problems, at least they were a visible find and fairly easy to fix. The burnt spark plug wire looks like it was laying on your exhaust or header.

For the heater hoses, I replaced the hoses on my 73 recently. I didnt know how old they were, and it was one of the preventative maintenance items that I do to prevent the type of problems that you found.

Good luck with your fixes.

Thanks, I had new plugs, wires, cap and rotor waiting for the weekend to eliminate possible causes.... and I know I changed the smaller diameter hose before, but I'm drawing a blank on the one that burst. Not sure why I would change one and not the other, but oh well...

I was counting on that actually! My wife and Aaron's mom are both members of the local 'Spinners & Weavers guild' and Saturday was the first meeting of the year. I said he could come hang out with me, instead of making him sit through a three hour meeting about yarn.
He is pretty fascinated when I am working on something. Labor day weekend, I was doing some body work on the wife's car when Aaron and his mom stopped by. Aaron didn't want to go home after he saw what I was doing

Hey Chris-

I got an idea for your 53 Chevy now-

You'll have to put a "53" on it because it's a fifty three-then paint it like the bug!!!

GOOD job on saving Aaron from three hours of YARN!!! Man that makes me YAWN!!! Too bad I didn't have a neighbor/parent's friend around like you when I was a kid- then I wouldn't had to go to the Fabric store!!!

Yeah, the past couple years my wife and I have been giving him custom painted shirts for holidays (he can be really hard on stuff, so it is something fun and replaceable) this year for his birthday I airbrushed him a herbie shirt and one to match my vette... he loves both!

It sounds so wrong, but also could be completely awesome!

I had to get the image out of my head and on to paper, or else I wasn't going to get to sleep!

Hmmmm Carrera Panamerican.... well I was going to put a roll cage in it anyways, why not? But, you have TWO corvettes to finish and I have to find the time and space to graft the C4 suspension onto the 53
