Default vacuum canister

I have a 70 vette that I hope someone can help with. I have a canister with a vacuum line attached but not onto the fitting. This is located behind the radio. Seems that this should be attached. Also I found a brown wire which turns to black at a connector hanging under the dash. This wire has power when the key is on or accessory position.

I am attaching some pictures. Thanks in advance for any ideas, Rob

It should be attached. It's part of the HVAC controls.

Thank you. I will try to get in there and attach the hose to the fitting. I have checked all the book sources I have and could not find that item. Thanks again.

Probably goes to a radio noise suppression capacitor that is mounted on the steering column, I believe.

Make sure that vacuum actuator does not leak around the shaft. Mine does and it controls the defroster diverter valve. A leak there causes a leak in manifold vacuum. Not good for smooth engine operation.
