Default Help to buy corvette

I have zero experience in classic and corvette cars, but I have considered to buy a corvette anywhere from 1972-1979. Could you help me of what are some things I need to consider before buying? I'm looking cars from autotrader, cars and craigslist and I'm living in Pennsylvania.

This is one that I have looked, http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/cto/5223741175.html

Of course I'll need to see it myself in person, I know that I need to check if its rusted or not, let me know of anything necessary to consider, I appreciate your help so much.

Oh and BTW, I don't have a garage, so corvette will be kept outdoor, is that really bad for the car in winter?!

You have two groups of C3's listed in your search. The 72 is the last of the chrome bumper era, 73 is a hybrid. The chrome bumpers often sell for much more $$ than the rubber bumpers (post 73) in the same condition. Current market. One could argue you'll get more for your money from a post 73 if that style fits your interests.

I'll say be careful with a car cover in winter. I did this one year, ruined the paint on my wiper door trim and egg crate grilles. Large chips of paint lifted off. The buildup of snow and ice trapped moisture under the cover. A cover may work if you keep if clean, clear snow, don't let ice build up. The cover should breathe.

Hi K,
WELCOME!!!!
A Corvette in your future!!!! Very Nice!
The car in your link makes a good appearance in the pictures. Seeing it in person and driving it will tell a lot more than the pictures do so you'll be wise to check it out in person..maybe along with someone more familiar with these cars than you are.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

PS: The pictures seem to show a modified engine… is that o.k. with you?

Hi K,
I think for a 76 the modified engine itself isn't a big deal.
I would be concerned about just what was done to the engine and how qualified the person was who worked on it was.
If it was just 'bolt-on' parts, it's not so important, but if it's been apart I'd be curious how carefully it was done.
Often looking at the car and engine compartment in general will be an indication of the caliber of the person who did the work.
Regards,
Alan
