Another success against PO Bubba. This may not look like much, but a month ago when I got the 68 convert, there were no back up lights at all. Bubba, for some unknown reason, removed the lens and bulb and fiberglassed over the BU lights. Left the socket and wires in place and covered them up. Also cut the wiring harness up front, removed the BU light switch on the trans and in general made it difficult to fix. Back required carefully cutting, removing and filling in to get the correct contour so the lens would fit and painting. Front required FINDING where Bubba cut the wires. Trans required modifying the switch, since Bubba installed a Hurst shift kit- dimensions are different than stock shifter arms. Anyway, BU lights are back to almost stock condition and they work. Take that Bubba! (I actually know Bubba's real name and address in TN, but probably should not use it here). RA
You are very lucky that bubba left the 68 only back-up lamps. They (GM) snagged them from an Oldsmobile, but the wiring is different. The 68 replacements are for the Olds and only have one wire, instead of the required two wires. Lou.
Now all you have to do is get the CORVETTE lettering straight...heh heh heh
Hey- at least bubba got it spelled right. I had a 1964 Volvo122S that needed the hood fixed from collision damage (I was watching the rear of a young lady walking, instead of the rear of the car ahead) when I was 19. The car came back from the body shop with the front emblem spelled VOLOV. Back when Volvo was a relatively new car in the USA.
Nice surgery! At least from the pics it looks like the paint is unaffected...
I had to re-paint about 1/2 inch around each light. Worst part was filing and sanding bubba's patch to get the rough contour before putting the thin layer of body filler in place. Just as I got it perfect, another strand of fiberglass would poke thru and I had to start all over.
