In '80 they went to the aluminum "batwing" rear differential which mounts completely different via "tabs" on the frame. The previous frames had a permanent crossmember.

*Note* The red frame labeled "rear crossmemeber change made in 1978" is actually of a 1980+ frame as you can see the tabs for the batwing.

You will have a lot of helpful advice and information from people who have been there done that. Better than any pile of shop manuals you could buy.

At least you did not buy something that will be expensive and a lot of work. (just kidding, unfortunately!) RA
