Well I am real close to dropping the hammer on this. I have read a lot and even talked with a guy that did his corvette. Is there a down side? I can't seem to find one. My 75' is power train numbers matching but that is about where it ends. If my math is correct I would have to drive the car about 30K miles to save enough in gas to make up the cost. I think the stick would make the car more fun to drive, I don't mind the automatic. Any thoughts or comments are welcome. Mike

I have done this many times to many cars. It is not a financial thing but makes the car much more enjoyable to drive. Yes it saves some gas but I don't drive my Vette to save gas. I have a TKO 600 in my garage for a friend to change over shortly. Do it. You won't regret it at all.

One of the best things I have done to my car was switch to a manual.

Always willing to help out. Currently have one coming in for brake work, new brakes and some other minor stuff like speedo cable and just getting some other minor things working. My friends 69 who is getting the TKO also will be getting a ZZ4 transplant at the same time with some other upgrades. He wanted a tilt/tele column so we found one. While I installed that I did the 4 speed pedal box for the eventual auto to 5 speed swap. I got all his gauges working and swapped out the amp gauge for a volt gauge. Converted his tach to electronic. He wanted some fall drive time so I gave him back the car with 4 speed pedals and still an automatic in the car. Once the driving season is over I will do the motor and trans swap at that time. I have lost count as to how many of these swaps I have done.

Totally changes the fun factor. And it's not just gas mileage. The cruising at 70+ mph is much more pleasing at 2200 as opposed to 3500.

Same here please!

(Mine is already a 4 speed so I wouldn't need a conversion, just the transmission)

I may have inadvertently misled you to believe that I am the sales guy. I'm not. I just want a 5 or a 6 speed. From what Jeff told me, for a close ratio 5-spd TKO, with the kit and manual clutch was right at $4000. about $4400 with upgraded internals. I have a '70 L-46 convertible with 3.70 rear.

Price will vary based on your needs, obviously

Was originally interested in the T56 6 speed, but I dont want to cut my crossmember.

Check Silver Sport Transmissions post in the c3 vendor forum, early August post.

Also, check their web page at http://shiftsst.com/gm-corvette-c3-1...82#tko-5-speed

Lots of details there. Jeff's email is jeff@shiftsst.com and phone number is 865.609.8187

Maybe if we can get 10 of us to commit, they will hook us up with a similar deal.

I'm definitely in, but saving 10%, and a discount on shipping means close to $500 stays in my checking account(or off my credit card bill!)
