My question only concerns the interior firewall, and not other areas of the car. I am replacing the factory firewall insulation. I am leaving the factory sound deadener that is sprayed on. I see many people remove it and add new sound insulation. Do I still need to add an additional layer of sound insulation here is I am not removing the factory stuff, or will the factory spray be good enough once I add my heat insulation?
Rookie answer here......The thick factory insulation in my '68 was beginning to crumble. I wasn't concerned about originality---I wanted to reduce the heat coming through the firewall.
I removed all the original black "blanket" and covered the entire interior with foil-lined insulation/sound deadener.
The brand that you buy/the amount you pay is up to you---just know that updating/upgrading the insulation is well worth the effort in comfort.
I installed the material in sections and I used quality heavy-duty Aluminum Duct Tape to join every seam...........

Ok. Replacing the factory firewall pad is exactly what I'm doing. Just wasn't sure if I needed new sound insulation if leaving the spray. Obviously it can't hurt. Just didn't know if I was wasting money here or not.
Model year? Early cars did not have factory sprayed sound deadener. If your car has it, no need to remove it. You should be able to insulate over the top of it.
