Getting a C3 after wanting one for years, where or is there an rpo sticker like on the 85? It's a one family owned car so I know its history, but they no longer or cant find the window sticker. The title is the original and the tank sticker is not there either. Thanks in advance

If the car was built in Bowling Green (beginning midway through 81) they retain the records and a build sheet and window sticker can be purchased through the Museum if you provide the VIN. You're out of luck from 68 to early 81. Your tank sheet would have provided you with the RPO's. Sometimes they can be found stuffed under the dash. There is no RPO sticker like you would find in a C4, only a Trim tag.

Hi B,
As cv says without the tank sheet determining what options were installed on a car can be a bit of a mystery.
Certainly interior and exterior colors are easy because of the Trim Tag, while stamps on the engine pad differential rear cover, and transmission case can help with engine/transmission/rear end identification.
There are other clues that are more hidden and often only come to light during a restoration that indicate things like p/s, p/b, a/c, p/w, and radios.
What happened to the tank sticker? Has the car been apart?
Given the chance many cars tell their own stories pretty well.
Regards,
Alan

Thanks, I knew about the build sheet availability for the BG built cars but wasnt sure about a label. By the way its a 74.
Luckily its a one owner car, no its never been apart, its just been sitting for 15-20 years. So long they cant remember when it was a normal driving car. I'm buying it from the daughter of the original owners so shes not too familiar with it. I was just curious about other than the obvious options if it had the FE7 package but I can figure that out by measuring the sway bars? It's an L82 Auto. Thanks again

The base suspension for 74 small blocks, only came with a front sway bar. The only 350's that came with a rear bar are the ones equipped FE-7. Gymkhana Suspension (FE-7) also included a 7 leaf rear spring (in place of the standard 9 leaf), a larger front bar and different shocks. Of course, a 7 leaf spring and a rear bar, are no guarantee that the car came with FE-7, as they are pretty easy to change.

Chevrolet does have some option information for Corvettes built between 77 and 81, but it's a little spotty, and they have nothing before 1976. Unfortunately, 1984 was the first year that GM used the 'Service Parts Identification Label", the RPO label.

Hi B,
If it hasn't been apart and has been sitting for so long it could well be a very nice original car.
The mileage and how it was maintained and stored will certainly have had an affect on what it presently is.
People always like to hear about and see PICTURES of cars like this one might well be?
Regards,
Alan

Well they claim 48,000 and thats what the odo says and its been stored inside for that period. Its in primer with bumpers off and those old square headlight kits on it. The headlight mechanisms are there with the car. Seat and pedal wear indicate the miles are correct. I havent picked it up yet as Im selling my 85 to make room for it. Its Corvette yellow with a black leather interior. The car is basically dirty and neglected. I'll post some pics Thanks, John
