Default Steady beep from dashboard

1981 Corvette - best description is a steady warning beep coming from dashboard when car is off. When you turn the ignition key to acc or turn the car on, the beep stops. Car starts and runs fine and all systems and instruments, except the A/C and horn, have been working fine. Idling or putting car in gear does not reset whatever is beeping. Noise is not real loud but annoying. Just replaced weather stripping on t-tops and they fit very tightly now but don‘t see a connection. I mention that because I went to garage day after replacing t-tops and noticed the noise for the first time. Not security alarm, what other components trigger warning beep?

Sounds like the key warning buzzer. Does it do this whether or not the key is in the ignition? If so, this thread may help: http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/...er-always.html

Thank you for responding. The buzzing is steady with or without the key inserted. Given our depth of expertise we will most likely find and remove the buzzer. We have all the manuals. Not that our solution actually fixes the problem but I will post a final response if that is successful.

After a visual inspection with an application of WD-40 where appropriate to various components noted in several threads that we could comfortably access there was no change to the beeping so we removed the clip from the beeper. Thanks again to all those who shared their opinions.

Know nothing about 81, but seat belt reminder?

If the key warning buzzer switch in the column is bad, this bad boy will drive you nuts. You can remove it or replace the switch in the column.

Beep was continuous when car was off even with nobody in the car, or with key in or out of switch. Tried connecting one and both seat belts before starting car, no change, tried keeping belts on after stopping car, no change. Beep only stopped after key is turned in switch with or without seatbelts connected. Does that tell us something?? Key starter switch seems like the most likely culprit according to a local mechanic but for 2 guys who don't know how long it will take them to do that type of repair, have a tight budget, and luv to drive the car, at least for a while between restoration projects, disarming the beeper was the quickest fix and car runs great.

Make sure you keep the old one... those things are getting hard to find working... And obviously yours is working.

I have kept most of the old (original?) components that were practical to save we have replaced.
