John,
replacement parts from GM in a blue box sometimes were boxed wrong or poorly made.
Trim was flash chromed and sometimes we had to order several of the same items to get a warranty part suitable for some of our more decerning customers.
Electrical items were now being assembled in Mexico.
Electric window switches failed on a regular basis.

AGAIN The only reason someone wants NOS parts is that they want Factory original installed parts for their Corvette & this is NOT what you will get in most cases. In 90% cases NOS parts are NOT the same. No other explanation is needed
NOS,
This is one of those terms bastardized by the myriad of "flippers" on the internet who all believe they are the genius guru of it all.
At one time I believed NOS was a discontented or very hard to find part that was made in the era that some way didn't get sold and has been sitting around, I felt that condition could vary from like new pristine to looking kind of ratty but since you were standing there looking at it you made up your mind right there on condition.
Now the term is askew kind of like "rat rod" which now means any POS that a person is trying to pass off as something it's not but use a buzz word to make it sound cool.
I have seen vendors call all kinds of stuff ranging from actual NOS to a new, made last week crappy import part NOS, some even call some old used part covered in rust and filth a NOS part, CL and ebay are full of these type flippers.
There has also been a decline in what is considered a "nice" used part, what many would have tossed out 20 years ago is on ebay and the sellers call it "rare" and ask many times going rate.
Sadly we as the buyer have to take all the burden on ourselves to figure out just what the vendor is selling what is it's actual condition and go from there, it's been a long time since I was able to go on just the "good word" of a vendor.
I did manage to find a '68 OLDS tail light to fit the very OLD mod to the back of my old show car....a '72 vette......so ONE of the lights is protected, need another backup.....
When I worked in the dealer body shops in the late 60's and 70's we installed many new dealer body panels and they fit the way they should but when I ran my restoration shop from 1987 to 2012 customers would bring in what they claimed to be NOS parts thinking that they would be the same quality but 90% of the time they didn't fit any better than aftermarket parts. I've talked to many people in the business that claim that the NOS parts that are left and in current circulation were defective parts that were rejected when new and warehoused until recent years to be sold as NOS parts. There is clearly a difference in most of these parts unless you are lucky enough to actually get some of the new parts that were in private storage.
