LT-1 on the way

I wish it were already loaded and it could be by now. The last email from the shipper was on Wednesday saying it was still in US customs. I've not heard since but I found I have to drag information out of them.
I emailed them on Tuesday evening to say I know the seller has been paid via the Escrow service and that the car has been collected but only due to the seller keeping me in the loop. Until I got their reply on Wednesday the car was MIA for almost a week and I had no idea where it was.
You might be able to detect that I'm not very happy with the service I'm getting !
And it's hardly cheep either..
£3,800.00 ($5,700) but included in their fee is marine insurance to the value of the car, 5% import duty (VAT) and covered transport both pick up & delivery.
I just want it over

Stuart
Please explain the purchase procedure that you used. You mention an Escrow service. Did they do an inspection and hold payment? The only guaranteed payment for a seller of an international sale, that I can think of, is a wire transfer into the sellers account.
Thanks, Lenny

Seeing your post reminded me… thanks for the tag!
It's nice to have another original since the reproductions are slightly different.
If the opportunity arises I may pass it along to someone who needs a not necessarily 'perfect' original!

Alan

I saw the car on the C3 for sale section just as soon as the ad was posted and jumped on it due to having no response from some other inquiries for two x 454 cars. PM'd the seller and agreed a sale price very close to the advertised price so not to miss out. Then I contacted four different shippers all having prominent advertisements in the Classic American Cars magazine. Whittled it down to one based on feedback and 'good feeling' agreed the fee based on their services available which included the ESCROW service as work commitments meant I couldn't fly over to see it in person. I sought the advice of a couple of members (thanks Alan & Gunter) Gunter specifically as he had also bought from the same seller. i then arranged to speak with the seller which to me is the next best thing to meeting in person.
I paid the shipper the full cost of the car and their fee's. The shipper then made a test payment to the seller of a nominal amount of $50 to check they had the correct bank details and following that an arrangement was made to inspect the car, check documentation and all being well send the full amount less the $50 straight away. It didn't go as smooth as it should have and the whole thing took close on two weeks from me sending the payment. It was nothing to do with the seller, Scott was a gentleman throughout, it was the lack of communication that delayed the transaction.
The list of fee's are:
Collection & delivery to port.
Marine insurance covering the cost of the vehicle.
Import duty - 5% of the cost of the vehicle.
ESCROW was i think £500.00
Collection & delivery to me.
So that's where I'm at, all being well I'll confirm the safe delivery in 4 weeks or so.
Cheers,
Stuart
I think people will find the description of how the transaction went in your case very helpful.
There are very often posts by folks both buying and selling overseas asking about how these sales should be handled in a way that protects both of them.
I hope your post won't get buried too deeply so it can continue to be found easily.

Alan

Godspeed on your Vette's journey, I know how you feel. I bought mine from the East coast, had it shipped here, and I waited 9 days from date of purchase to receive it, you must be out of your mind waiting 4-5 weeks!
Enjoy your LT-1!

Thanks Ray. I have no idea where it is at the moment

It was a vacation in Florida in 1980 and seeing a Corvette similar to yours that got me hooked.
It looks sweet, are the wheels OEM ? I do like them

I've checked today and still waiting for an answer but I believe it has to spend a week in UK customs before it can be transported to my address so no chance of it by Christmas..

I'll be in London when it arrives so not that far away so I might see if I can see it unloaded but I doubt it.
Using this site you can track most ships through out the world in real time.
I use it to follow a couple of locations and boats I'm interested in.
Good Luck!

Hmm, looks like a rusty old ship..
On Monday it will be 8 weeks since I instructed the shipper. Their estimate of 4-5 weeks from start to finish was clearly a load of claptrap..
At this point, I'll settle for 3 months I suppose and at least I've had plenty of time to get a space ready in the garage.

Just got an email this afternoon saying they want to deliver the car this Wednesday. I'm out of town on business until Friday so I've asked them to change to Saturday as I obviously want to be there to take delivery.
It was due to land in the UK 23rd Dec but having rocked up late in Germany and missing their unload slot they were held at anchor off shore for 3 days. It eventually landed in Felixstowe 28th Dec but then with the holidays nothing much would have been done regarding clearing customs.
The whole thing will be 3 months from the kick off I think! Not something I'd rush into again I think. if I was Vette less I would have gone stark raving

if it shows up perfect I'll probably mellow and consider it again in the knowledge that their estimate of 4 or 5 weeks is nonsense..
Thanks for asking Ed.
Stuart
