I'm new here, but I have been doing some research on the site. I'm looking at buy a c3 corvette and was wondering if the corvette listed below is a 1981. The body style looks correct. I question it because it has a manual trans.
81s have a B code for model year in the VIN and on the trig tag. Why not purchase a copy of The Corvette Black Book? It'll help while you shop for a car.
The Corvette Black Book lists the following VIN numbers for 1981 production: 1G1AY8764BS400001 thru 1G1AY8764BS431611 for STL cars and 1G1AY8764B5100001 thru 1G1AY8764B5108995 for BWG cars....
Hi Mike,
Welcome! New Member!!
AND, maybe a Corvette in your future! NICE!!!
An interesting fact about the 81 cars that 4-81's post alludes to is that 81s were built at both the old Corvette plant in St.Louis and also at the new Corvette plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky!
So there you go… you now know some Corvette trivia!
Good Luck as you learn about Corvettes and look for the right one for you!
Regards,
Alan
I'd wonder a bit about a car that was bought at an auction and is now being moved on to another owner…. not necessarily a 'bad' thing but would make me curious about the car.
